MVS to JAMMA converter issue

Post by Kiken »

So I recently bought a 2-slot MVS mobo while I was at Magfest. I have a standard JAMMA-compliant Supergun. Now, I realize that by default, when I plug the MVS into the Supergun, I'm either going to get garbled sound or no sound at all (I specifically get no sound) due to the rearranged pin outs and voltage differences between the two formats. So I bought one of these MVS to JAMMA adapter units online. Problem is, while video and control inputs still function perfectly, I still get no sound.

Anyone willing to offer some advise on getting this fully functional?

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you bought this: http://www.hardmvs.com/html/MV-2F.htm

Do you get sound out of the headphone jack ? There are separate controls for headphone and speaker on this motherboard.

I tried the headphone jack as well. No sound from that either.

There are two jacks, did you try both ? did you try the sound test from the SETUP menu just to be sure ?

Isn't it possible to damage the sound chip if wired into jamma or is this 4 slots only? If you're not getting anything from headphone socket I'd be fearing that offhand.

... I can't remember how I sorted this for my 4 slot but I think I just cut out some wires on a loom upon the basis I'd just get audio from headphones... Sorry really need to check out those pinouts again to confirm what's what.

Default output on the NeoGeo MV-2F is Speaker Right on pin 10 and Speaker Left on pin L.

In a default setup this will drive both inputs into the speaker which might not be healthy for the amplifier.
However Kiken has bought an adapter to handle this issue so it is a moot point.

I'm only seeing one headphone jack (in the photo I posted it's on the left side of the board, located right behind the headphone volume slider) on the board. If need be I can take additional photos.

If you look at this manual, there should be one on each side of the memory card connector ? According to the docs there should be 2 headphone jacks on both MV2 and MV2F.

Well then, it would appear that the board has suffered some damage:

You can see a metallic prong to the left of the memory card slot, but the headphone housing and the additional contacts are missing.

Not good, can you verify that this motherboard had sound working when you bought it ?

After I purchased it, we plugged it into a standard JAMMA hardness just to test it.. when it booted up and we got a picture, we just went with the whole "without testing it in an MVS harness, we probably won't get audio" mentality. So no, I didn't test it on hardware that should have given us proper sound. Guess I'm going to have to do some electrical troubleshooting...
