I am fairly certain it has something to do with the Cheer system, as every time I've crashed I had Cheer turned on... and I've never had a crash in over 10 hours of playing with Cheer turned OFF from the main menu. I can't recall a single other instance of any other game crashing my Xbox One that I've had for over 2 years (launch US console), so I don't suspect a faulty console - especially with other reports identical to mine.

Anyone else have this experience? In particular:
* Are crashes happening with Cheer mode turned On/Off?
* Do you have the game installed to internal HDD or an external USB drive? Mine's on an external, possibly something to do with it (though I play plenty of other games off external drive with zero issue)
I didn't say you were the only one experiencing it, but a number of people I've talked to who have it haven't experienced this. I'm also playing a US console and have it installed on an external USB device, and in my 30 hours, I haven't experienced this once, with cheer active for the majority of my time playing. Might have to do with faulty internet connection or something, I really don't know, but I just think it's not as common or widespread as some might think.

I'm just posting my experience. Even if I'm in the minority, it's at least common enough that I've seen identical reports from others online, in the tiny amount of Raiden V talk that even exists in English. Would be interesting to see how widespread it is though, so would welcome feedback from people who have played at least a few hours on whether they have or haven't experienced crashes.

Really don't think it's something on my end hardware/connection wise though, since I've never had anything similar happen with the many other games I've played on the same setup.

And to try to help anyone who DOES run into issues: turning off Cheer seems to solve it for me. I'm fine with this since it's really quite a minor gameplay element (and is sure to die out before long anyway with the fairly small player base), but it's unfortunate that it's not working for me as it is a fun little feature when there are others using it. Hopefully whatever is happening gets fixed with a patch.

More information about route and ending:

According to the Japanese achievement guide, if you clear a stage with destruction rate above 80%, the next stage will go up one rank. Otherwise, go down one rank. So it's impossible to play A or B stages in a row (Because A stages will go to S or B, and B stages will go to A or C.)

As for endings, there are 6 endings in total.

S: Defeat the Final boss and go through all S stages.
A: Defeat the Final boss without going through all S stages.
B: Without Final boss appearing, clear stage 8 with destruction rate above 98%.
C: Without Final boss appearing, clear stage 8 with destruction rate between 80% and 97%.
D: Without Final boss appearing, clear stage 8 with destruction rate below 80%.
E: Clear stage 6-C with destruction rate below 80%. (Premature ending)

The Final boss will appear once you start form stage 1 and power up all 3 weapons to maximum. Game difficulty, stage rank, restarting scenes or stages, and continuing don't affect whether the Final boss will appear or not.

My copy finally arrived earlier today and I've been playing it quite a bit since.

It's actually quite challenging, the graphics look much better in person, and the music is pretty good.

The Cheer system seems to work well, and is both useful and entertaining. It adds an interesting and unique form of socialization that I haven't seen in any other shooter. It also provides a good way to conserve bombs by acting as a sort of hyper mode. I just wish there were a way to send cheers automatically, since sending them manually can get a little distracting with everything else going on. I've been receiving a good number of cheers from other players as well, and it's nice to see the game is so active.

As for difficulty, I find myself consistently dying near the middle of stage 3, and that's on normal difficulty. The bullets are insanely fast on very hard.

I haven't encountered any crashes during gameplay so far. Though it seems like the game really dislikes being minimized/suspended for long periods of time.

It's odd that the leaderboards don't offer a friend filtering option. Hope they patch that in at some point.

Very good review, and I agree with most of it from what I've played so far. Though I would say my overall opinion of the game is a bit more positive than that.

He's being very misleading with his explanation of euroshmups, stereotypically painting the community as a similarly stereotypical bunch of Japanophiles.

I think the review is excellent. It highlights the series' place within the contemporary shmup market and goes into surprising depth on gameplay features (scoring, missile selection and even the lack of double play).

I know there's a tendency to attack mainstream shmup reviews on this board, and that's usually well-deserved. In this case however I think you were just drunk.

I finally almost got my S route 1CC last night, but as I was on the very last section right before the final boss, my power went out  I still had more than 50% shield left and a few bombs, so I know I can do it, so I'll just do it again tonight or tomorrow.

I've found that using the whip plasma laser is probably the easiest thing to use for many reasons. It has auto-homing for the most part, which obviously helps, and even though it's weaker than the blue laser or some of the other weapons, it also keeps the clutter off your screen, which the vulcan is REALLY bad at. The vulcan (especially at higher levels) basically makes everything blend together, covering the whole screen in yellow bullets and it's much harder to keep track of enemy bullets on screen. Plasma laser keeps it clean and since it's bright purple, it actually makes most of the other bullets much easier to see. Blue laser just doesn't have the coverage you need to kill things that come in from the sides of the screen, it's actually really hard to get enough destroy rate to stay on S-route with the blue laser.

There's not much of a "general concensus" yet because not many people outside of Japan have played it yet. Everyone who's posted in this thread has generally said good things about it and I enjoy it myself.

On the 2ch boards, at first there were a lot of Japanese people mocking the game and saying it's dumb because it's on Xbox One, but just a few weeks later, I'm seeing more "I tried it lately and it's actually pretty good..." on 2ch.

Watch videos and make that conclusion for yourself if you want to play it, that's all anyone can really say.

I'm not a very accomplished shmup player, but Raiden are amongst my favorites in the genre. I really f*cking love Raiden V. Much more, than both 3 and 4, which didn't really feel like Raiden. V has a very classic feel in modern threads, and the music is outstanding.

Already stated that it will eventually come overseas. Do you really pay attention to what other forum members post???
I am starting to think just like them about you.
Coming back on topic, I haven't got my copy yet but can't wait to try it out. Raiden IV was a good game IMO, and so far it looks that this Raiden V is a lot better. Fortunately initial promo videos of the game didn't show the potential of the game.
Let's hope the game will launch on other systems, but since it uses Azure servers I don't know how moss will solve that little problem.

Agreed, I found the review very good. And although I have not played it yet I agree with some points after watching let's plays. One of the things that I disliked watching let's plays was the super fast scrolling backgrounds in the zoomed out sections (as pointed by the review), everything gets blurry and gameplay blends with backgrounds. Other than that the game looks superb.

The link above the quote becomes a replay that 1cc and defeat the final boss (same hyperlink, but the detail changed). Hoping someone move to YouTube.

And tomorrow Moss will put an update to fix the crash & moving problem, and slightly adjust the color of the bullets.

I just got up my video of the full game including the TLB up on YouTube in HD:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyAjCDrN5Q0

This isn't even close to a 1CC, as the purpose of the video was to show off most of the new weapons and mechanics since we'll be covering it on the STG Weekly show soon (and I don't like the new weapons much at all.) I also have to play on a less-than-ideal monitor setup to stream stuff, so it's harder to do well at the game. In any case, it's the full game with the TLB Divine Rampart.

I got my S-route 1CC on Monday after the mishap with my power going out, here's my final score since leaderboard uploads still aren't working for me:

Well-said, it does have a more classic feel and I do enjoy it a lot more than 3 and 4.

Sorry for the double post, but it's of note that MOSS just released a patch for Raiden V which they said, among other small things:

Fixes enemy bullet color to be more visible
Fixes the freezing/crashing some people were experiencing
Fixes the leaderboards

Here's the press release for it: http://raiden.mossjp.co.jp/raiden5/xbox ... 60316.html

Glad to see Moss listening to the players and adressing issues.
By the way, were you playing on normal difficulty, isn't it??
Most of us didn't ecoect it to be a great game but hey, I am loving it so far. I wish it had a 2 players mode to play with other people.

Excellent. They could be a bit difficult to see on some of the fast scrolling backgrounds. Now they just need to patch in a Tate mode :)

Well, I did the update, and I've noticed something strange. There appears to have been a tweak to one of two things that has impacted the scoring. Either the Flash multiplier is now depleting just a shade faster. Or the Flash multiplier remains the same, but enemy's individual multipliers are depleting faster with time. I'm certainly suddenly scoring less, and consistently, but playing exactly the same way.

I think Moss' three tweets (1, 2, 3) from March 18th, confirm something is up, and that the leaderboard will soon reset... though I confess getting that by running the Tweets through Google Translate.

This is particularly frustrating for me, as my high score pre-update was 33.9 million. Then I had a run (pre-update again) where I cleared 40 million... and the game crashed, so I lost that score. Now the update seems to have implemented lower scoring, but (for now) the leaderboard remains un-reset, I'm going to have to fight even harder to get that score back!

I do really, really like this Raiden, despite its quirks and flaws. Here's my review for Eurogamer, if anyone is interested. [EDIT: Reading back, I see you've had some feedback. Rather than over post and confuse things now, I'll come back to that!]

I will say crashes have been very rare for me. Maybe 3 times over 16 hours of play.

EDIT: URL fixing.
