Hi all!
I recently picked up an XRGB-1 for cheap. I have an XRGB-2 as well and was quite impressed with it and since I am currently venturing in the world of Superguns and PCB, I thought the XRGB-1 would be a good addition.
While I haven't been able to get it to work with the supergun yet, I been testing it with a Super Famicom and a PS1 and I noticed that there seemed to be a bit of a Jailbar effect on the screen.
Is this normal ? I been running it off an LCD but I have yet to run it off a CRT yet.
Thanks!

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
I have the same issue with saturn, sfc and pc crt.
Never been able to remove these jailbars.

I see! I had thought that it might be a dud ! No worries, I just have to sit further away and the SLG3000 Scanline generator does mask it a bit.

It is a shame because IMHO it is a much better device than the xrgb 2.redcage wrote:amaradona wrote:I have the same issue with saturn, sfc and pc crt.

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
The XRGB-1 lacks built-in fake scanlines though, and scanline generators don't completely make up for it as they don't produce real shades of black.
The DISPL at least features this though at 100% intensity, which some people might not like.
Then there's the huge difference in terms of compatibility between the 3 dip switches and 4 dip switches revision of the XRGB-1; the former is apparently as flexible as the DISPL, but the latter is much much less compatible with arcade boards.
Regarding the the XRGB-2, I wouldn't say it's inferior in every area, the linedoubling is blurrier, but color reproduction is definitely better more balanced with better handling of gradients.
It's also completely plug-and-play while the XRGB-1 and DISPL demand some work on the input (had to modify my scart>jp21 with a resistor to add a power switching line, otherwise the DISPL couldn't even detect signals).
Honestly the only two things about the X1 & DISPL that are really superior to the X2 are the linedoubling quality and often more stable/less noisy signal without adjusting.
The old Micomsoft doublers all have their pros and cons yeah, the OSSC when it's ready should settle everything and put them all to sleep. ^^

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
I feel the xrgb 1 is much cleaner that the xrgb 2.The fact also that it is outputting a 640x480 signal is a real plus for me.
On a PC crt I do not use scanlines anyway as the contrast is taking a hit on an already dimmer screen than a consumer CRT.
You are right though, Marqs device will soon settle scores in a definitive fashion.

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
I haven't been able to get it to work with my supergun, the consoles seems fine though. I think I read in some old post abt having to do some rewiring of some sort on the PCB to get it to switch to RGB. What would that be all about ?Xyga wrote:

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
Well the DISPL (which I assume is very similar to the XRGB1) works directly with my supergun without any modifications (Sigma Raijin with JP-21 RGB cable), but the Euro Scart consoles with an adapter (Scart>JP21) consoles wouldn't, so I had to modify the adapter (Fudoh guided me in another thread, I'll tell you if I find it)
If your supergun is using JP-21 RGB for output, the XRGB-1 should work...
The problems I can think of;
- the XRGB1 is a 4 dip-switches version and is not compatible with your current pcb's
- the AC power adapter is not good (maybe too low amperage ?)
- your supergun's video output cable is lacking a signal/wire and therefore the XRGB1 does not detect the signal. It would require a modification (can't help you here I don't know much about JP21 RGB cables)
Sorry, just random ideas ¯\(°_o)/¯

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
Problem on the DISL was that it requires a switching voltage, which is not neccessary on all the later XRGB units and often just isn't connected on either the RGB cable or EU/JP adapters.
On JP21 RGB cables we're talking pins 11 and 16. 5V to pin 16 and from there through a resistor to pin 11. Since the DISPL came after the XRGB-1 I would assume that the XRGB-1 requires this as well.

Re: Regarding Jailbars on XRGB-1
^ Thanks. I did the mod on my scart>jp21 adapter as you instructed then, and never had any more issues with the DISPL since.
Hopefully indeed it is the same with the XRGB1.

It's the 3 dip-switch model and I am running off an MVS, I should be able to get a PCB to test soon.
I doubt it's the AC power. But yes it could well be the supergun video output cable!
Thanks for the suggestion anyway !
