What ship are you using?

Gluttons looks daunting at first, but once you figure it out it's actually rather harmless. The main thing you need to know is that you can avoid most of the round bullets the little helpers shoot (when they spam them directly ahead, not when they aim of course) by going to the upper edge of the screen. Lasers are aimed, so move away, in the entrapment laser pattern you can lead the slow homing shot by slowly moving around, and you can counterburst it just fine (with Assault you can chain three bursts for nice damage and score). The usual fixed burst wall should work pretty well if you are using a ship with that.

I'm using the preset ship, which takes for-stinking-ever to rejuvenate the Burst Meter with. You're right about the attack patterns, though...they're really not all that over-the-top, but the battle is just taking forever and he just wears down my shield by not being able to be counterbursted. Believe me, I've tried counterbursting that thing, and every time I do, I get slapped in the face for it to the tune of about 3 shields lost, or a ship.

Guess I'll keep practicing since you say that counterbursting is possible. Maybe I'm just not timing it right.

One thing I will say: HG has one *heck* of an impressive introduction after the WARNING! text. The school of fish and him, along with your ship sort of dancing around for a minute, is a neat little show. Plus, the battle music kicks. It really stays with you after you're done playing, in a nice way.

Counterbursting with Legend is tricky since its burst takes a bit to come out. If you are not feeling so sure about counterbursting you can simply dodge it by going to the upper or lower edges of the screen and getting close to the boss; the laser will miss you.

If you don't care that much about score, I'd suggest using fixed burst and aiming it diagonally at Glutton's face, so you can both use it as a shield and damage the boss at the same time. All the shit the boss shoots is usually enough to keep the burst meter going.

Anyway, why none of the Whip bosses and Dual Spin show up on CS mode?

I guess the developers couldn't fit those bosses on a single screen. Unlike the bosses that originated from DariusBurst PSP, those were really made for the super-wide screen and can't be properly converted to a standard 16:9 screen due to their size, at least not without compromising their patterns.

As for the Massive Whip achievement, I wonder why they chose this variant instead of Dreadful Whip which is in the Original EX mode. Maybe it was an incentive to play Chronice Mode? If it were, at least it worked on me.

Yeah, it really is one of the most well-choreographed fights in the game with one of the best music tracks. I already talked about this, but I really wish all bosses had such cool introductions, like in G-Darius.

I hope that when they make a new Darius game, they'll include a CS type mode, but with more variation and with some out-of-the-box presets. For example, you can only use a fixed burst, but as it cancels bullets, it becomes stronger and uses up more energy. The current formula has great potential to sate both arcade-goers and casuals alike.

Hopefully we won't have to wait 18 more years for that. See you in 2033.

It's hard to go back, isn't it? I just plugged the original PSP game back in tonight, and wow...the appearance of the thing is just so much grittier than the Vita version. I'm now too used to playing the new version, and I'm spoiled. Still great stuff, though.

Not for me. I still like psp version too, though I can't play it well because d-pad on psp-1000 is even worse than it's stick.

Would love to see a Vita port of AC mode that refits the screen into a single screen-filling 16:9 display, not this "lol 32:9 window on a handheld" nonsense. I mean, if Pyramid can go out of their way to reformat the stages for CS mode...

Let's put Savage Ruler as the last boss of a 17 stage mission and give the player a non-fixed burst ship with low damage output.

Not to mention, the counterburst special effect is underwhelming, if not completely non-existant, and fighting the same four bosses no matter what is boring (in a Darius game). And the slowdown during Mirage (PSP 2000, PRO-C 6.61), which is actually helpful because Mirage is a piece of dogsheet in this game due to the resolution of the console.

Still fun when I'm not home.

And technically they have everything already there save for a Zone select screen and the endings.

You haven't played the stage with Origin (or I think it was Second?) that ends in Gigantic Bite, right? That one was lol/rage inducing. :P

I did. Losing 40 shield points over two different attacks right at the beginning made my heart sink numerous times. But I somehow pushed through eventually.

I still like it, but having played (and quite frankly, gotten used to) the Vita version, going back is a bit of a haphazard thing for me. Don't misunderstand: I'm not getting rid of either.

Hey guys,

I'm using the windows Steam build for Mac (coupled with winebottler) and the game was running fine until the recent update R5131 - now I just get a black screen and the game never boots.

Any ideas? I've tried switching through just about all the available resolutions and restarting a ton of times but it just doesn't go.

How in the world is it possible to consistently dodge the purple lasers from dolphins during the Great Thing battle? It's as if they designed it to screw the player over.

In AC mode, you merely need to stay left: the lasers will stop changing direction a few moments before they reach you.
In CS and Vanilla... Hope you have ARM left.

It's been a while, but as I recall, they can be dodged by herding them to one corner then moving to the other when they get close. Try to herd them in such a way to minimize how much they interfere with your break laser shield.

My understanding is that the DLC comes out March 17th, which is an odd date given that it's a Thursday. Not sure if that's in Japan only or what. Looking forward to it though.

Here is where I read that:

I've finally got the ending to CS mode, but I still have about 10 missions left before the true ending opens up for me.

I've said it before and I'm going to say it again - I hope the next Darius game also features a mission mode like this, but improved (obviously). It was so much fun to go through all the stages with different configurations and go from zero to hero. Savage Ruler, Gigantic Bite and G.T.V are no longer scary, though getting wrecked is still quite possible. But clearing mission after mission, making all that progress and seeing yourself improve over time was well worth the initial price of admission. I think I've spent 70 hours in the CS mode alone.

And then there's the AC mode that I've yet to give a try.

The DLCs will be released on 3/17 worldwide, which is a Thursday, as that is when we do our release dates. (The reason being our home office is in Japan, and if we did our release dates on Friday, they wouldn't even be in the office as it would be Saturday)

The DLCs releasing on 3/17 will be these three:

Sorry that I wasn't a bit more on the ball with this. I just started doing the Degigames side of things mid last week, so I'm still catching up on stuff. (I've been with the company for quite a while, but I was involved with other stuff)

Cool, I will get these DLCs for sure, but I sure hope the Sega ones are still planned for release. I was really looking forward to the Fantasy Zone content.

They are still planned for release, but it will be a bit longer. Probably early mid-April.
