Hey guys,
Since the next GDQ is coming up and we wanted to give those in the community time to prepare.
Recently Aquas has been at some GDQs https://gamesdonequick.com/ and it seems that some people who run it have become more receptive to having shmups at GDQ.
If you submit a run and it is accepted at GDQ, we at STGWeekly are committed to helping you out, advertising your appearance on our social media, interviewing you for an episode of STGWeekly, and time permitting--a charity marathon to help you get there.
Cheers,
The STGWeekly crew
Submit a run to GDQ and STGWeekly will support you!
Re: Submit a run to GDQ and STGWeekly will support you!
Space Invaders Extreme 2 Time Attack mode incoming?
Seriously though, I guess it couldn't hurt to try submitting Eschatos since I have the (very low) WR in Original Hard and the game has 9 lives so game overing should be a rare event. If Aquas is going, maybe he'd be interested in commentary to lend some credibility to the submission.
Not sure if I'll actually make a submission, sounds pretty scary and unlikely to get accepted anyway.

I don't see why an STG couldn't make GDQ seeing as how Star Fox 64 got a score run during one year. Then again, Star Fox 64 is a bit more well known than say Dodonpachi Daioujou.
For an STG to make it in, maybe it would have to have very flashy scoring system (Crimzon Clover, MMP, Futari God, ESPgaluda 2) or just be well known (Ikaruga, Touhou, Gradius).

Don't sell yourself so short, man. I'm pretty sure you are like maybe 5M away from the absolute max.gimebe wrote:...I guess it couldn't hurt to try submitting Eschatos since I have the (very low) WR in Original Hard...

Score runs in bullet hell STGs probably wouldn't impress anyone, as you need some sort of reference point to actually tell what people are doing right. That's why eg. the TGM blocks worked so well. Everyone knows what Tetris is about, and seeing experts play it on such a level, made everyone forget about speedrums (even if TGM is technically a speedgame)ratikal wrote:I don't see why an STG couldn't make GDQ seeing as how Star Fox 64 got a score run during one year. For a real STG to work at a GDQ, you need to impress people with what's immediately apparent - ie. dodging bullets. Something like super hard black label modes where the patterns take up the entire screen straight from Stage 1 is what people want to see. If you can tell people that you're gonna beat that game with the "hardest video game boss ever™" live on GDQ, people will buy your run. But I guess that's hardly marathon safe.

Futari God makes it pretty obvious when you done something good

OK, I submitted Eschatos Original Hard, and Ketsui Omote as well for good measure.

Really awesome you submitted gimebe. I hope you get in!
Alright everyone, we've got our first submissions. Who else is working on a run and submitting?
Best wishes,
F
