Thunder Cross 2

Post by Marc »

Any fans on here? Played this again for the first time in ages last night, and as always, was struck again by just how much more I enjoy this than the Gradius series. Just seems to pick & mix the best bits of the Gradius games yet feels slightly of Thunderforce, and strikes a perfect balace between the reaction/memorisation aspects. Seems to get very little attention on these boards though, wondering if anyone else plays at all? Also had a few plays through Thunder Cross 1, not quite as interesting as the sequel, still nice though.

Yeah, this silence is telling. We're a people of arcade lovers - when we get them ported on our home systems

'Tis a shame though, seems destined to be an overlooked masterpiece. Wouldn't grate on my nerves so bad if it wasn't at least the equal of Gradius 2 (and far better than 1 & 3) in every possible way.

Don't worry - as soon as a "Konami Classic Collection Deluxe Pack Extra Special" pack is released, the love will grow. And no one will complain about tate option too -that's just a reason more to love horiz!

P.S. it's damn fine game but I never completed it. Not sure it ranks as high as GII though.

Except, Konami will never release any new arcade collection, rather they will just keep churning out the same Gradius and Yie Ar Kungfu rereleases over and over again... :?

And even when they do manage to throw together a package, it will, as usual contain lots of filler and glaring omissions. Like the MSX collection without Akumajo Dracula, Space Manbow, Metal Gear I&II and Snatcher!

Exactly. How hard can it be for these people to start putting our PROPER compilations, specially seeing as most of the work is already done for them. Don't want people downloading your ROM'S? Well stick fifty of 'em on a disc AND SELL THEM YOURSELF! Taito Legends seems to have done pretty well - surely other companies must have noticed the quantity and quality of the games on that disc and reached the only sensible conclusion?

1) give it time. They will do it eventually. During the Psone days a 30 taito games collection would have unthinkable, and now it's considered standard. Even Namco was criticized to rehash always the same dozen games for his collections, and recently gave us Klonoa!

2) Antiques was an MSX collection, not an MSX2 one. They probably had to develop (gasp!) TWO emulators instead of one. From what I've heard so far, they didn't succeded in recreating faithfully MSX titles, let alone Space Mambow...

And about MG, they probably were keeping it for a stand-alone release of sort - never mind anymore, we're getting both on Subsistence :D

I enjoy Thundercross 2, but it seems less balanced than its predecessor. When you die & lose speed/weapons in TC2, you're more screwed than in the first game. Otherwise, an enjoyable old-school shooter romp.

You can't be serious about the sequel being better than the first one?

If you're playing the first one, make sure it's the jap version and not the crappy US. It's not only the different ordering of the levels that's changed, it's the whole concept of power-uping.
The first TX is the best horiz ever made!

K, just my 2c.
