In terms of pledged delegates so far, Sanders is not that far behind Hillary. In terms of superdelegates (party officials who can change their vote up until the convention), Hillary is killing it. The more optimistic Sanders supporters point out that this was also the case in 2008, before Obama picked up momentum and the superdelegates went with him. The more realistic people point out that Sanders is not Obama.

As for the left, can anybody explain to me how Sanders is losing to Hillary? That's kind of the real mystery as far as i'm concerned.
Highly religious black people in the south locked in a peer pressure cycle, mostly.

They would be voting republican if blackness weren't somehow turned into a social wedge issue with the passing of the civil rights act. Hillary is literally a republican black people can vote for. That's her entire platform. It hurts my head trying to understand it, too. Our politics are seriously warped.

They are roughly tied nationally, but seeing this enormous racial divide in the democratic primary makes me sick. I used to argue against conservatives all the time when they'd say that Obama became president "because he's black". While that doesn't ring true for the general, it... is almost certainly true of the 2008 primary. I was wrong and naive to think better of people than that.

You'll see nearly the entire midwest go to Sanders. They're almost tied in the popular vote, and his voters have to be somewhere. And we've conclusively ruled out the south.
In terms of pledged delegates so far, Sanders is not that far behind Hillary... The more realistic people point out that Sanders is not Obama.
The polling is not optimistic for the election, but not it's not impossible for him to win it.

Superdelegates should indeed be ignored. If they want to rip the party a new asshole, lose their jobs, and give republicans absolutely everything, that's their prerogative.

It also seems that Sanders isn't really all that popular among black voters, which is cosmic irony of Lovecraftian proportions.

Don't feel too bad BryanM; a lot of strategy of democrat cronies is to divide by race. I've seen it happen in my and any city with a big black population; it's just a power game - promise to help the minorities, and then blame it on whites and racism when you don't do anything for them (or especially if you make their plight worse). They are certainly no better than the loony white agitators, but for some reason they are rarely if ever exposed for what they are.
Opus131 wrote:I think Trump is just trash. His positions are only "monstrous" in the eyes of leftist radicals who actually take their own propaganda against the right seriously. Indeed, the reason Trump destroyed the GOP is precisely because his views are what the "normal" right-wing ought to reflect. He is not very good at presenting those ideas, but at this point beggars can't be choosers. Ultimately, i think what we are witnessing here is the end of the GOP, because you can't undo what Trump did.
The fact that many prominent neoconservatives are now flocking to Hillary should signal just how dangerous Trump is to current GOP leadership. Ultimately, I think this is a good thing (not a good thing if Hillary and the war-machine wins), because it jettisons from a political party its most toxic and powerful bloc, proving that the majority of people in the country won't continue to let the brainwashing go on. Yes, we can say GWB was a bad president. We can say Iraq was a mistake. Yes, we don't have to accept shitty "free trade" deals.

I would not be surprised if fucking Mitt Romney decided to enter the race in order to keep his clique's hold on people. While many of my Democrat friends are smug about the Republican meltdown they should be less smug about how the same group of rats that whispered into the ears of Bush and Obama are filing behind Clinton.

Very strong points from our conservative friends that are impossible to brush aside.

Sure, give Trump a chance to stain his hands with blood. The alternative is a woman bathed in it.

And the only billionaire he's obligated to rig some profit for is himself. Hillary is obligated to increase the wealth of all of the billionaires. They're legitimately whining over this feature of the guy. And he might be a little... vindictive to his peers when they snubbed his request that they help fund his campaign.

There's a shred of hope there, as delusional and tiny as it is.

Religious black people should be voting and supporting Alan Keys, if only they knew anything about him. Probably the most consistently conservative politician i've seen and what i imagine the right-wing in America ought to be. Alas, he is too cerebral for the average person to understand and probably too religious for his own good. Ho, and he was talking about the immigration issue (which according to Ann Coulter is what really made Trump such an instant hit) way before Trump even showed up:

Edit:

I'm honestly warming up to the idea of Trump winning. I think it doesn't really matter all that much what a president says he wants, compared to what he says he doesn't want, seeing as he can't just create any new laws himself - on the other hand, he is able to veto new laws. And in that regard, Trump seems considerably better than Clinton, in that he's unlikely to approve of trade deals like TPP, and also (probably) unlikely to initiate any new wars (like Iraq, Libya, ...). He might be racist, he might want to build a wall on the border to Mexico - but he couldn't actually put those ideas into practice.
The one area where that argument falls apart is the matter of appointing supreme court justices. Which is huge and makes me somewhat ambivalent. I'll just continue hoping Sanders manages to get the nomination.

I tried reading Mitt Romney's q_q on Donald Trump, but the very first thing, "His bankruptcies have crushed small businesses", I burst out laughing and had to stop.

How the fuck anyone can possibly take these pieces of shit seriously. Calling this statement hypocrisy just... Doesn't remotely encapsulate the reality of it. It is a holocaust against decency and reason. It is a crime, and Mitt Romney should be sent to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison for the crime of being so thoroughly inhuman.

Holy shit, the debates are like watching a dying animal thrash in desperation. They know Trump is gonna be the guy, they're hitting him with the loaded crowd booing him nonstop, the moderator hitting him with left wing attacks (aka, rationality and sanity), it's a knifeshow.

And all in vein. Useless.

Everyone hail to the Trump.

It is pretty slimy, though no doubt this might have been "big Don's" worst performance yet, at least for the Fox News crowd.

I find it amusing that Fox only had graphs to attack Trump's numbers, and did that 3-video hit piece (which he handled about as well as he could have) - no other candidate got served such a steaming pile of vitriol! No doubt it was orchestrated to make him look foolish (no way), but I wonder how many viewers could sense the desperation within Fox, R-Money, and the GOP leadership. I feel like this tactic was their "last stand" - they threw everything they possibly could at Trump, dragged into as much mud as humanly possible. If he actually makes it out of this he is truly unstoppable. Do you think Hillary could survive a night like this?

It was Kasich's best night, now that he's actually given time to talk. Sick little Marco doesn't benefit with his weak, weak banter, and Cruz got to play grown-up (I don't think the "count to 10" zinger was as biting as others thought) until... a part of his soul tried to escape his mouth. Which lol leaves Trump at the same spot: top dog with two puppies nipping at his heels.

What a whirlwind of craziness. Absolute craziness.

Say what you will about her in other areas, but some folks are still trying to make not only Benghazi but Vince Foster and Whitewater stick to her after all these years; if anyone was still after Trump for, just for starters, his Obama birth certificate embarrassment (or, yet again, how few of his official numbers actually add up), let alone the various crap he pulled back in the 90's, he'd be the one on the outs (at least if we still lived in a country where reality still mattered).

It's such absurd over the top hypocrisy, like I said.

"Hey Donald, your plan to give huge tax cuts to billionaires is gonna increase the national debt substantially. The national debt is BAD, mmmmk?"

But that applies to every republican's tax plan.

Hell, Cruz's tax plan would render our currency completely worthless and nonviable over time. That's the optimistic outcome.
Do you think Hillary could survive a night like this?
Apparently she doesn't want to take the chance and cancelled her Fox town hall appearance for a fundraiser or getting wasted at home.

It's funny how everybody expects Trump to follow through on his plans for a "revolution" without giving any details for how that's supposed to work - so yes, Trump has more to answer for than the other candidates, unless you're big on lotteries, miracles, and wishing on stars. So, on the whole, Romney is right here - don't shoot the messenger. Still, Huckabee has said some sensible things too - the GOP does need to "wise up" to the new electoral realities. Though, as I've said before, elections should not be just like market share; we should not put up with fascism and racism just because it's driving people to rallies.

Speaking of that revolution, the Brookings Institution hit out against Sanders' plan as "reducing incentives to work" and "reducing incentives to save." In other words: Only poor people should work, rich people's "work" investing shouldn't be touched.

The GOP needs to become actually right-wing, which it hasn't been for the better part of who knows how long. This means it has to become both "racist" and "fascist". A bit of sexism wouldn't hurt, either.

The alternative is the Marxist hellhole the left is desperately trying to create, by any means necessary, including using racism, fascism and sexism.

The idea that the Republican Party should be "right wing" means...what, exactly? It certainly doesn't mean being a principled libertarian or New Deal critic because the people aren't following Cruz or clamoring for the repeal of safety net programs like Social Security and Medicare.

The idea that the Republican Party is "right wing" is a modern invention. Teddy Roosevelt was a progressive environmentalist who regulated big business, and Abraham Lincoln is called a murderous tyrant by the states' rights crowd. The early Republican party was abolitionist.

The only times i can think of the Republicans being meaningfully "right wing" it was to soak up southern racists with the Southern Strategy with Nixon, or the disastrous War on Drugs and dances with murderous fascist regimes in South America. But, as a person, I think the Gipper was mainly just a critic of the New Deal.

As best I can understand it, the Trump crowd shares the most traits with nativist parties like the Know-Nothings. I don't mean that as an insult, that's just how it seems to be.

Well, i guess we could mull over the intellectual history of the right and right-wing philosophy.

But personally a good start would be to actually be opposed to the left. The idea doesn't even seem to cross anyone's mind.

Notice how quickly a certain way of looking at things is injected into the conversation.

To me, a good definition of conservatism would have start from first principles, in which case conservatism becomes synonymous with traditionalism:
