Hey guys, here's the question; I have the sony BVM-a20f1m with the BKM-62hs (HD-SDI/SDI input)
My consoles all output RGB via scart.
What I was planning, was to order the "AJA D10AD" https://www.aja.com/en/products/mini-converters/d10ad and https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/son ... verter-bnc
Plug my console's scart into the retro gaming cables adapter, then plug the rgb into the converter, then take that and plug it into the 62hs so I can use my monitor for gaming finally.
Firstly, would this work? In my head it works, but I've got no idea really, also, would I need the Sync stripper version of the cable from retrocables?
Thanks in advance! Hope this makes sense, I don't have much of a hand at explaining things!

Looks like it would only accept sync-on-green given the lack of a separate sync input, so at the very least you need a T-Adapter, or maybe even something active.
Beyond that I feel like I've read Fudoh say SDI is not applicable to retro gaming. Maybe it outright doesn't do 240p or something?

To be honest I think you're probably right, I'm definitely clutching at straws here! Pipe dreams and all that!bobrocks95 wrote:Looks like it would only accept sync-on-green given the lack of a separate sync input, so at the very least you need a T-Adapter, or maybe even something active.

Re: Sony BVM - RGB to SDI converter question.
Technically, yes, it would work... But it doesn't make any sense to do so:
1) The D10AD has been discontinued, and yet reportedly has a high failure rate, meaning you can't get a replacement
2) This D10AD does not support separate sync, it seems to require the signal be "time base correct", which I think means you need some sort of time base corrector box, which seem to cost several hundred dollars. It's really not clear, the D10AD manual doesn't really mention sync. Or you need the D10A (note the missing letter) which seems to have external sync?
3) The D10AD plus the required TBC converter would appear to cost more than the BKM-68X RGB input board for your BVM.
4) You're going to convert from analog (console) to digital (HD-SDI) back to analog (inside monitor) again, which may not hurt image quality much, but certainly won't help.
Maybe instead keep an eye out for a BKM-68X? I've heard people say before, not to bother buying A-series BVMs unless they already include the BKM-68X.

Thanks for clearing that up, I think you're right there, It's a whole mess really, and definitely not worth the hassle I think!
I'll just keep my eye out for the 68x, perhaps I'll get lucky

Well, the D10AD may support sync-on-green (the manual makes zero reference to it, but you'd expect it to support sync-on-luma for component), and maybe it doesn't really need this "time base correction" stuff the manual talks about, so maybe if you got a sync converter all that put together would work...
I wouldn't risk it, though... Spending hundreds of bucks on converters that might not even work.
If you don't care anything about lag, then a Framemeister plus a cheap monoprice HDMI-to-HD-SDI converter would likely work, although that's also expensive, and really what's the point of using a CRT monitor with a Framemeister.

To be honest my housemate and I are getting a framemeister for his consoles on our LCD tv, that'll be in the future though, so I could arguably try it then I suppose, however input lag however would bug the ever living heck out of me! :')

Re: Sony BVM - RGB to SDI converter question.
can't you talk to them again ? Why not buy them the AJA (or any other analogue to SDI converter) and they give you the extension board in exchange. If I were in their place, I would prefer an external and easy solution like this. They certainly don't need 240p RGBs compatibility. Thanks for clearing that up, I think you're right there, It's a whole mess really, and definitely not worth the hassle I think!I bought the monitor on the premise they were going to sell me the 68x as well on my next pay day, however they bailed as they wanted to keep it for their other hire monitor, shame really ...

It's worth a shot, I still have contact with them, I'll certainly suggest it, I'm surprised they need the board to be honest, they're an AV hire company and generally they're hiring out the monitor for pictures/video not games etc, plus they haven't even hired out either monitor (the one I bought or the other they have) in over a year, so I can't understand why they're holding it, eh I'll have a word, but unless they plan on ebaying it or something later down the line for more than they agreed with me!can't you talk to them again ?
