WG Tri-Sync?

Post by mikejmoffitt »

I might be getting a Wells Gardner Tri-Sync monitor off Craigslist for a good deal. Anyone have any good experiences / horror stories? I think it is a D9200. I am considering taking the tube and chassis and mounting it inside the frame of a 27" CRT TV so it's not just open frame all the time.

Well, I got the monitor today. Pretty sure it's a D9400 or D9200.

It's odd. The displayed image is super dim, and has almost no red and even less blue, but the OSD has pretty balanced color. The chassis has some horizontal linearity problems in VGA mode pretty bad, with some wraparound on the right side.

15Khz mode is also very dim, but the geometry is a little better in spec. Everything is still very green, though. There is almost no burn-in, which is nice.

I'll have to find a cap kit to start out...

EDIT: With the factory settings menu I was able to fix the out of range settings for bias and gain for each gun. Things are decent now, and I'm left with the typical issues you get when capacitors are worn out.

Got a Wells-Gardner D9200

Well, it's definitely a D9200. It had corrupt settings but I fixed those. In 15KHz mode, the image is adequate - only very slightly compressed on the left, and a tiny bit on the bottom. Hard to notice unless you're looking. I got the color balance looking good, as well as focus. For 15Khz stuff it's in great shape for its age.

The VGA mode has really wonked out linearity, though. The right side is very nearly wrapping around. Once I re-cap it I'll take some pictures.
