First, there was Dariusburst for the PSP. A year later, Dariusburst Another Chronicle came out in arcades, which was significantly based on the PSP version but with a lot of changes. Shortly after that, an update for Another Chronicle called Another Chronicle EX came out which added more content. Chronicle Saviours is basically a faithful home port of Another Chronicle EX, plus an additional (large) mode that was developed specifically for CS.

Very cool (even if the videos for Galaxy Force, Fantasy Zone, and Space Harrier were removed). I still don't know of these "exclusive mission packs" will go the extra mile and throw up some 3D models of past bosses, but I am hoping. All the same the ships here whet my appetite for more Taito.

I watched the three Taito ships gameplay and...
Ugh, of all the Zones they could have chosen to use as Black Fly's first one, they picked the most generic level in Darius history (along with the sky one). A comparison would be pretty harsh. I mean Metal Black's first stage was incredible, but this... Bleah. The Goodbye My Earth zone (the closest thing to that one in terms of "themes") was already taken by Night Striker, but still.
Also, wow, X-Lay's homing laser meter is gigantic.

What are your opinions about the game? These ships like Gaiden or other are different in speed and stuff or just visual changes?

All the ships (8 in total, not including CS mode's Murakumo or these DLC ships) have different mechanics and play styles, which does include speed but also includes their shots and the way the burst weapon works. Gaiden in particular is based on the ship from Darius Gaiden, boasting the black hole bomb from that game instead of the standard burst laser and a continuous high rate shot style similar to that in Darius Gaiden. There's also Origin, based on Darius 1, Second, based on Darius 2, and Genesis, based on G.Darius. I think Formula and Assault are also inspired by other games from Taito. Legend and Next are the "standard" ships.

No-missed ORV with Genesis, of all things. Scored quite a lot - 115,708,200, ranking 72nd on the (PC?) leaderboard. Didn't try to score, but hey, that's decent.
"Couldn't care less about 1cc and scoring" my a**, thank you, DariusBurst PSP and AC.

...All these posts of mine should be in the "I did it" topic, shouldn't they?

I guess I can just fully admit that I suck at shmups anymore. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy the journey anymore, but playing for score? Shee-oot...I'm just playing to survive, and I'm enjoying the heck out of the game.

Nice score!

Oh, no no no, don't get me wrong. I'm exclusively playing it for survival, but when I get a decent score out of nowhere, I'll share it because I want to.

AxelMill : I think they have chosen this stage on purpose as out of all the DBAC stages, it is the one that color-wise looks the most like Metal Black's own first stage. You'll notice they did the same for Night Striker and Rayforce, with stages (very) loosely mimicking the original games.
And congrats for the ORV no-miss!

siemien : The ships all play differently and add even more replay value to a game that already features buckets of it. Trying to tackle difficult stages/routes with Origin or Second after being used to the fixed Burst's protection is tremendously fun for instance.

I think I'm hitting a wall here. I can't for the life beat Gigantic Bite. That asshole has way way too much health and nonstop flak from all angles. I tried to cheese my way with Murakumo but I got my ass handed really fast.

Can't believe it chewed 45 ARM so fast, dammit. The screen feels claustrophobic as well compared to Arcade Mode. I'm sure I'll nail this bastard soon but any help/tips/recommendations are welcomed!

Minor aesthetic comment, but I like how much faster the X-LAY's homing lasers seem compared to the source game. Looks a bit more violent.

Damn, just a burst away from the 1CC. Panicked stupidly when Hungry Gluttons was about to die after not getting hit for the whole fight. Dumb.

At least this session I managed to reach 50 million on C and started to get the hang of the counterburst segments of J. Starting to figure out how to milk Phantom Castle also; for the first time I managed to dismantle it completely, and now can no miss it most of the time after getting beat so much by its damn curved lasers. Just a tiny bit more effort.

Forgive my lack of understanding, but how do you know this? Without an enemy energy meter, I honestly have no idea as to how long it can/should be for a boss to be taken down. It's one of the very few things that's frustrating to me about the game/series (I'm pretty sure that it's universal throughout the Darius games, that there's no boss energy meter, yes?), but it's certainly not a deal-breaker. I don't know how you can quantify things like that, though.

Am I missing something?

The boss glows more red the more damaged it is, but it's a rough estimation at best.

The boss will start flashing red, yep. But stop shooting for a second and you will also see electric discharges and flashes, that's the sign that it's one burst short of going boom. The problem seems to be that this is notorious on some bosses (the Lightning, Wheel and Fossil bosses) and less noticeable in others (like the Nightmares, Castles and Gluttons/Bullets).

Because I continued, shot a burst and it went down, ha.

As the posters above say, you can tell a boss is about to die because it starts showing signs of malfunction. You can see sparks and a glow over them, and they also tend to become more aggressive and do new patterns.

This makes some sense, as I practically *never* stop firing, period, whether it's the single shot or the burst, so I wouldn't see that. Plus, the vast majority of my time lately has been spent getting pummeled by Thousand Bullets and, to a lesser degree, Brightly Stare. Still haven't gotten through them yet, but I haven't been playing daily, either. I'm trying to let it stay fresh for me.

I'll have to try to pay more attention while I veer for my very survival. :)

I see. I haven't yet even tried to play AC mode, I've been on CS only, so no continuing there. Wasn't in the mindset of that being an option because I haven't ventured over to that part of the game.

Haven't seen the sparks that I know of. New patterns? Well, the longer I play a boss, the more patterns emerge, yes. If I'm good/lucky with my burst on Brightly Stare and am able to pull off a counterburst, BS won't be around as long to use a couple of attacks that he normally does, so I understand that to a degree.

Still, I wish I had a firmer grasp of how much punishment these guys are going to be able to take. And again: it's been absent in other games in the series, too, so I don't feel like it's "missing" or something like that. If anything, it takes me back to the oh-so-frustrating moments of (I think it was) G-Darius (or maybe Darius Gaiden?) on the Saturn, where boss fights could take for-stinking-ever, with no real indication as to where the boss was, energy-wise. That did get a bit old.

So just when I thought I finally had Thousand Edge down, I decide to burst counter it and the giant green laser corners me into a tragic failure.

How would you compare difficulty of different Dariusburst versions and modes?

I finished about 10-12 missions in CS mode on default presets in DBCS (after several tries many, but still); while on PSP's db in Mission Mode i couldnt go futher "Level 2" of missions, even completed only 9 of 10 missions of "Level 1" tier.

The "fuck-you-laser" is an appropriate and accurate name for that attack.

Hurr hurr you think you're so cool with your counterburst eat shit motherfucker

Finally got that clear. Phantom Castle is not a threat anymore survival-wise, I just have to polish milking it as I accidentally break some parts with shot instead of burst. I use lv.2 shot to get more burst gauge from canceled yellow lasers, but lv.3 is probably better due to its lack of piercing properties. Probably should avoid leveling up missiles, too, as it is very easy to break boss parts with it. Another very annoying thing from this boss is that its burst is done randomly, so sometimes you are stuck avoiding homing lasers for minutes and it will not shoot a burst. This can be dangerous at low health since it will start spamming homings and that's certain death for me.

So, still, fuck Phantom Castle.

My biggest hurdle right now is counterbursting the pods at J: they are tough to set up well due to all the enemies flying around and missing them destroys your score.

I can't remember if it was Mirage or Phantom Castle but if you go "straight to the core", and damage the main body of the Castle, it'll automatically fire its burst laser at you when it gets rid of its parts. The problem is that you'll actually need a piercing shot weapon, which goes against milking the pieces of the castle boss so, yeah, it's a delicate balance. I absolutely hate the boss and usually if I see it's going to be in a map, I pick Muramkumo and cheese the fuck of this asshole.

By the way, I beat Gigantic Bite yesterday and cleared CS Mode.

SO, maybe this time I could actually get some tips on how to deal with those horrid bullet waves it fires when it summons those little sharks that can fire burst lasers. Or what's the best way to deal with those blue electric anchors that track you down. I hate those so much...

I don't remember there being a guarantee of either using the Burst if you do that, so ????
Also Mirage Castle is pretty easy

what lol the blue anchors are like the easiest thing to deal with that gigantic bite has in like its entire arsenal
just make them chase you to the corners of the screen or something

for the attacks with the sharks, i only really know the first one is actually pretty easy IF the shark isn't shooting boxy homing lasers at you, just kinda go to the top and bottom of the screen as fast as you can
the rest idk you're fucked lol
