G-Sync round 2: Acer predator XB271HU

Post by Ed Oscuro »

Well, this is going to be a short one.

In short this does seem like a slightly better unit than the Asus. The OSD isn't quite as intuitive, but it works fine and it seems to have more adjustments. The Predator logo just flashes by quickly, it's no big deal. The stand took me a while to figure out but it's solid and nice.

New unit, December 2015 build date, better QC than the preowned ASUS PG279Q all around. Taking a photograph of the screen at 0% brightness showed one flashlight spot at the bottom, not too bad. Glow is still there but seemed manageable, but still worse than my old 16:10 monitor. Head-on backlight glow color is silvery instead of blue as on the Asus PG279Q, according to my camera.

Dead pixel on the left, along the very center line of the monitor, and there's also a small dirt spot behind the panel in the lower right, so it's going back. I didn't even get to the stage of looking at uniformity, but nothing jumped out at me in a few minutes of use.

Seems like I'm moving in the right direction at least.
