XRGB-3 dead Panasonic AN15865AA chip

Post by Deubeul »

Hello,

I think the AN15865AA panasonic chip of my XRGB-3 is fried, as all the outputs of the unit don't output anything any more and the chip is very hot when I touch it.

I couldn't find retailed one on the net, sent inquiries to HK or chinese suppliers who seemed to have stocks, but had no responses.

So I registered on this great forum looking for help, if someone has a link to a seller or has a spare chip and could sell it to me...

if its super hot like that in all likelyhood its bad. most chips unless they have a heatsink or fan run cool to the touch.

Ive diagnosed bad chips in sega genesis consoles by just sticking my finger on them and turning the console on.

a lot of times the audio amp will go bad like that.

I think that's the switcher IC. It gets fried when somebody connects a EURO-SCART source to the JP21 input. While I can't help you to source any of these, I know that Konsolkongen (a user here on the board) did successfully change the chip on his XRGB-3 unit several years ago. Maybe he has some useful info for you.

I got mine from here just over a year ago http://www.digchip.hk/stock-AN15865AAVT.html. Very good service.

@ Fudoh: I read the thread in which Konsolkongen talks about his successful change of that chip, that's how I could diagnose my issue. I fried it while doing tests of csync/composite video output with my xrgb on a Pc Engine: at one moment I forgot to disconnect the scart from the xrgb while desoldering the sync wire in the PcE, which resulted in a big spark when my iron touched the sync point on the PcE MB
After that all the outputs were dead, I have only a blue screen now.

@ Kel: thanks for the link, I sent them an inquiry :P .

Update: I finally received the chips I found via seekIC.com, and successfully changed the chip!

My xrgb-3 is working again! :D

I have some spare chips in case someone needs one someday. If I don't answer here, you can contact me on the pcenginefx forums.

Thanks guys for the support!
