My local arcade, seems to have been invaded by fruit machines. I doubt there's been a shooter in that place in more than 15 years!

Arcades around here are rubbish. I've seen Bosconian + Galaxian once (Namco 5-in-1 cab), but that was in a mall. Can't wait to visit Sven666's acrade though, which is a couple of hours from here by train. :)

Raiden II
Centipede
Galaga

Sometimes in a laundrymat or bowling alley I'll stumble upon a NeoGeo multi-cab with an Aero Fighters 1 or 2 (Sonic Wings).
There's an arcade in Philadelphia that did have Giga Wing 2 like a year ago, and they have an Ultracade cabinet loaded with games - but its not TATE so Varth and 1942 and such are pretty lame - Wonder 3; and particularly Chariots, gets a few quarters from me every time.

Seconded. I haven't seen a shmup for years around these parts.
The most commonly seen shmups around here are Ibara, Garegga and Brave Blade, and they're located in my house :P

DEL, which arcade is that? i'd really like to play Ketsui

Casino Arcade Goodge St on Tottenham Court Rd. Pls note London Meet III is scheduled to be held there on the weekend April 22nd & 23rd. Check Meets forum for details.
Ketsui was there for about 3 months for the purpose of London Meet II which was held recently. The board was provided courtesy of South London member ill6. It will probably be re-installed for Meet III, either by ill6 or by Holloway Rd veteran ARC.

I would say:

#1 - Raiden
#2 - Raiden
#3 - Raiden

Haven't seen any other shmups in the arcades since 1994 but Raiden seemed to remain popular for a few more years. Last spotted in Meadowhall, Sheffield - maybe about 2000.
The biggest unanswered question is where is the money? [1CCS]

If I go downtown to Nagoya there are two arcades with all current releases. :)
How in hell do these companies make any money when all their games are only in ONE arcade in the whole world?!

1. Raiden
2. Aero Fighters
3. 19XX
None of them there anymore. :(
I used to see Carrier Airwing and UN Squadron quite a bit in local arcades, but the arcades with them aren't there anymore. :(

That's a very good question. Are sales in Japan alone enough to account for the number of arcade boards/cabs sold? If not, where outside Japan are all those games? I mean, they have to be somewhere; certainly not all go straight to private collections?

The most common one in my area would have to be Raiden Fighters Jet. I've seen it in three locations already. I've been requesting a shooter for like two years at the arcade I work at, so we finally got Strikers 1945 II. I would like to push them to get something newer, but they want to know that it's going to make them a lot of money before they purchase new machines. There is another arcade with an ultracade cabinet with Truxton II though, and a prehistoric Isle II.

I wish there was a site like ddrfreak where there's a location finder, but with shmups. That would be hard though since I assume that they might get more frequent rotation than other games.

Galaga (Common as dirt)
Strikers 1945 (Gone)
Strikers 1945 II
Raiden II (Gone)
Raiden DX (Gone when Mountasia bit the dust in my town, but a Max & Erma's near me had this- don't know if they still do.)

Unfortunately, my arcades are mostly racing/DDR/gun game havens. I'll probably hit Mega Millions before I see a recent shmup in this town, except for the PCB's and console versions that I've got.

Thank God for the import market.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

Does this Nick Tipping guy a member of this forum?

I had thought of this idea before, but lack the skill to do it. :?

Okay, I would start by adding the acrade meachines on my island to the site. :o

No arcades here...then again, we don't even have public transport!!!

The local Wal-Mart usually has one of the Strikers 19-- games, as well as a Raiden.

Here in Kumamoto, there is an arcade across the street from my university with the following:

Battle Garegga (2 cabs)
Ibara (2 cabs)
Dodonpachi
Mushihimesama

....and there's one more, but I can't remember the name of it. It's a character shmup - your ship is a flying person - it's in 3D, and the first level has you flying over a city.

The cool thing is, some of the people there are good. The high score on one of the Ibara cabs is over N millions, and that was 2 weeks ago. I also watched this one guy get A million in Garegga, but he died at the wall. Still, you could tell by how he played that he is an elite player.

Went out and checked some more arcades around work - everyone has these "4-in-1" or "39-in-1" boards with old games these days. So every arcade you walk into now has a Galaga, Gyruss, 1942, Zaxxon, Xevious, etc machine dumped in the corner.

Besides the stuff on Ultracade, the only thing closely resembling a shmup here nowadays is Metal Slug 4 or 5.

Thr Circus Circus used to house Raiden II and Viper Phase 1, which they got rid of for some godawful reason. The state of the arcades here is really dismal. (I did try to snag a RSG kit for the local arcade to use, but I got outbid and i'm broke now :/)

Back in Vegas, there were a lot of Raiden Fightres around, and the Espgaluda that nobody played except me. :P
