Ooh, so many good movies!
I'm sure Ghostbusters would be a good one to see on the big(ger) screen. Krull is eminently enjoyable for all its cheese; I bet its amazing special effects look even better in theater. I'd wager that Lawrence of Arabia would be particularly sublime.
Now I gotta check my schedule and see if I can't make it to one of these showings.

My top picks would definitely be 2001 followed by Vertigo, but I haven't seen everything listed

My heart's crying The Wild Bunch and Krull.
They don't get any cheesier than Ghostbusters.EmperorIng wrote:I'm sure Ghostbusters would be a good one to see on the big(ger) screen. Krull is eminently enjoyable for all its cheese; I bet its amazing special effects look even better in theater.

I already saw Interstellar in IMAX. Would only go if someone hadn't seen it yet. I think 2001 is a given and I'd probably go see Ghostbusters even in 35mm at the theater just for laughs. It think Vertigo is definitely happening.

Vertigo in 70mm is like a dream come true. Will be incredible.

All of them except for It's a mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, though it has a great Saul Bass opening, so you could watch that then leave. Actually, Krull is rubbish, and Interstelkar is silly so yeah, skip those.
I remember liking Brainstorm but that was 20 years ago. Would probably be interesting for the Trumbull effects.

Lotsa Krull love here
That is definitely one I would see. Vertigo would be fun, is it the restored print?

But it's really good, awesome 80s rubbish.dan76 wrote:Actually, Krull is rubbish,

Re: Seventy Millimeters: which of these are the must sees?
I can't think of much I'd rather see on the big screen than Krull's awesome alpine scenery. I mean, shit, people went to see The Eiger Sanction. Krull is at least that good and doesn't have any dog dick scenes.
Re: Seventy Millimeters: which of these are the must sees?
I know what you mean, but it's very dull. It's a huge Star Wars rip off without any energy. It's been on TV a few times recently and I tried to watch and enjoy it in that way, but failed.Skykid wrote:But it's really good, awesome 80s rubbish.dan76 wrote:Actually, Krull is rubbish,
You can take Krull, Willow, Labyrinth, Legend, The Dark Crystal and Dragonslayer. Maybe I've forgotten one, anyhow, I'd put Krull at the bottom of that list. Still, I get the effects would look good in 70mm... I take it all back!

Re: Seventy Millimeters: which of these are the must sees?
Krull has never seemed like a "Star Wars rip-off" to me (not enough vehicles to boot). More in line with Gene Wolfe's writings and their indulgence towards XXth Century's first half's pulp fiction.

On a related note, the Prince Charles Cinema In London is having a John Carpenter 70mm season!
I'm going to try and get to The Thing and Big Trouble in Little China. My girlfriend has never seen The Thing... I wonder what she will make of it - ha!

Carpenter's The Thing... possibly the best "watch with newbies" horror movie ever.
Recently sprung it on an informal university movie night, much "oh hell naw!" and "Sweet Jesus Fuck" was said!
Nthing Vertigo, that would be amazing. Even on weenie small screens the sense of peeking in on someone else's fever nightmare is sublime.

Ghostbusters, Krull and Cleopatra are packed with good sets and design choices that would be most visible in that format.
Cleopatra might be a little dull for our generation assuming you aren't 60+.

I noticed Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines is one of the movies listed. I loved that movie!
