Naomi, jvs 2 Jamma I/O board, kick hardness, MvC2, Egreet II

Post by SNK-NEO-GEO »

Hello and thank you in advance for reading.

I have an Egreet 2, a Naomi board, a Sega I/O v2 on the way. I want to play MVC 2 which is a 6 push bottoms players game. I am trying to find out what is the kick harness that I need that would go from the Sega I/O bard to the push bottoms 5&6 since I think the jamma hardness has 1-4 I think.. Also, the same line of questions if I connect the Sega I/O board to a Taito Type X2 system and play SF4. Who sells those kick harness and where can I get them.

Thanks for reading and for the feedback.

On my Egret II candy cab, the button wiring is set up for Neo-Geo MVS with buttons A, B, C & D (even though the control panel sports a 2L12B configuration meaning 2 levers {meaning joysticks in this case/instance} & 12 buttons - 6 buttons per player so therefore, buttons 5 & 6 aren't wired up to anything at the current moment but are installed if they're needed to be utilized at a later date/opportunity). You'd have to wire up the fifth and sixth buttons directly to the kick harness (to properly use them) and then hook up the kick harness directly to the Sega Naomi motherboard's kick harness interface and not through the Sega I/O version 2 itself (this same principle would apply to the Taito Type X 2 motherboard as well -- you'd wire up buttons 5 & 6 to the kick harness and hook it up directly to the Type X 2 motherboard's kick harness interface). You'd have to count how many pins are used on each motherboard's kick harness interface and order a wired harness with the approximate number. Easy as pie.

I have an American Sammy produced Daioh Jamma PCB that uses a dedicated 6-button scheme for both players so a custom-made kick harness is hooked up directly to the PCB itself just to be able to play it properly with a supergun setup (of course, by removing a certain 2-pin jumper on the PCB itself, it's possible to play the original JPN region version of Daioh with a 2-button scheme for both players if so desired as well).

@ PC Engine Fan X -- thank you for the reply.. I am having a hard time following these parts..

"sixth buttons directly to the kick harness (to properly use them)" What kick harness or where to get it? can a normal CPS2 kick hardness be used?

"and then hook up the kick harness directly to the Sega Naomi motherboard's kick harness interface" where is this kick harness interface located on the Naomi motherboard? Is that a normal kick harness interface such as what the CPS2 system has because I do not see that in the back of the Naomi board.

thanks in advance for answering my newbie questions..

Here's an eBay auction for a kick harness that will hook up to a Capcom I/O's kick harness port that'll allow you to play MvC 2. You'll have to get a Capcom I/O though and wire up the 5th & 6th buttons to the kick harness. You'll see that particular kick harness goes in one way into the Capcom I/O's kick harness port (that has 17 pins altogether).

If you click on the above eBay auction for the bundled Sega Naomi + Capcom I/O set, you'll see that the Capcom I/O has a 17-pin kick harness port (located to the left side of the L&R RCA audio outputs) that you'd hook up the kick harness to take advantage of the 5th & 6th buttons on your Egret II candy cab.

the problem is that I pay a bit of money of the Sega I/O version 2.. so I would like to avoid buying another one.. I just looked at my cabs and they seem to have buttons 1-5 wire to the Jamma harness .. I also have 3 wires handing two with P on them and one is S.. Maybe those are the 6 for both players... I just hope that the sage I/O sees 1-4 and joystick at least... I have another I/O (not sure the brand) and on the Egreets only coin, and the service work.. I get no input on the joy sticks or push buttons.. but when I connect the same I/O to the HAS supergun all work except 5 and 6.. I need to contact RGB to see if he has a kick harness for the Naomi and that IO board.

Research a bit more - I see what I need now for the Sega I/O 2 to connect the Egreet. The I/O has the kick inputs on the left side pin 4 and 6 seems is p1 and p2 6 push bottom. I need a custom kick harness to connects to that and then to the push buttons 6 for p1 and p2.

Than you! Brumma for all the research and help and thanks PC Engine Fan for the input:)
