So, Steam just downloaded a patch for this, but there's no news anywhere as to what got changed. Anyone know what's in the patch?

The game.exe and the Vorbis .dll files are all modified, so it could be an audio/music fix?

EDIT: Loaded it up and, annoyingly, it's also overwritten the music patch from earlier in the thread. So no, not an audio fix.

EDIT2: Forgot to put the original files back, my bad. :S

About to check now. I only show the download to be 800 kb according to Steam.

It is. Just have to revert to the original BGM folder rather than the patched one.

If that little patch was supposed to be a fix, it didn't fix things for me. I deleted the game entirely, redownloaded it, and the audio still has the pauses when it's about to loop on stage 2. The audio seemed fine on stages 1+3, but I don't know about stage 4 and up.

Confirming what The Coop said: earlier stages work, the later stages still loop incorrectly.

We may be needing another of those fan patches in the meantime...

I haven't gotten to Stage 6 or higher yet. Could you come over to the thread I made on Steam in the RIV forum and mention what happens on those stages? Here's what I've written thus far...

Stage 1- Seems to be OK.

Stage 2- The music still stops for a moment right when it's sbout to loop.

Stage 3- This one seems to be going the other way. The loop actually cuts in too soon, and you can hear the music abruptly jump to the loop point before it should.

Stage 4- This one's odd. I've had it cut in too soon, and had the music stop for a moment before looping, on different playtroughs.

Stage 5- I've had the music repeatedly stop for a moment before looping.

Stage 6 and on- I haven't gotten there yet.

Just have to say the advent of 3:2 Windows tablets probably should be viewed as a godsend for shmups (the vertical kind, at least). I'm playing this right now on a Vaio Z Canvas, with a Neo Geo USB pad and it is wonderful, not just for the aspect ratio or screen quality, but also because of the hinge that can be adjusted to any angle (which the Surface Pros have as well).

Anyway, I'm so late to the party, I remember envying 360 owners back in late '08-09. With regards to the game, I mainly wanted to say I'm under the impression there's no way the slow ship can compete with the fast one, especially in Overkill mode. I'm working on 1ccing Additional Mode with it right now just to see how high I can rank in the leaderboards (and maybe prove a point xD). I prefer using it, at least in this mode, for the way the bombs work if anything. It can be very satisfying to get the timing right.

Raiden IV is on GOG now. No online stuff yet, but the game it $6.99 for the next few days. The question is, does the game still suffer from the music looping issue the Steam version has? Can the old user made fix that was posted here a while back fix it if the audio issue's there?

Given the non-standard screen aspect ratio, does your tablet accept typical 4:3 full screen resolutions (640x480, 1024x768, or even 1280x960) and scale them without changing the aspect ratio? Given the low processing requirements for most STGs, it seems like even the lowest spec Surface Pro class device would have plenty of horsepower. I'd ruled them out for other reasons, but now you've gotten me considering one again. So, thanks?

For anyone interested, there's a new video I made with the sound effects turned off (ignore the 20 seconds of emptiness at the end). The music loop problem is clearly there. Hopefully someone at GOG can get ahold of the developers so they can fix this. Keep in mind, this looping problem is random. Sometimes stage 2 is fine, sometimes there's a pause, and other times it cuts in too early. It makes me wonder what happened, and why the developers thought they fixed it back on Steam before bringing it to GOG.

And yes, this video is of the GOG version.

Mmm... GoG releases. No stupid DRM protecting their executables:

Yeah that's the game running at 1440p. There's no reason that should be unsupported. Not perfectly sharp, but definitely an improvement.

That's MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner Statistics Server (included with MSI Afterburner). I normally don't like having statistics on the screen, but it was the only screenshot utility I had available.

Actually, it does take those resolutions, but there are still black borders. The borders are bigger in yoko mode, but it's still better than the 16:9 screens that still go on most laptops and tablets due to the ~20% more vertical viewing space. It's pretty awesome in tate mode (albeit still with some smaller black borders at the top and bottom for the Vaio Z Canvas, at least), but you'll need some kind of stand to prop it up on.

Sorry for bumping this just to ask a question, but I got the Steam version today and the game won't run at all on my computer - "not a valid Win32 application". Is this because I'm running it on a 32bit Windows XP machine? Any way to solve this other than installing a new OS?

System requirements don't state 64 bit but they do state Win 7 as minimum, so that's probably where the issue is.

Stupid question, in steam original mode there's no 1280x1024 resolution option? Or it's due to my integrated graphic card limitations?

Raiden IV only supports 16:9, 4:3 and 3:4 resolutions.

If you add a custom resolution for 768x1024 and set scaling to disabled in your graphic driver settings you should be able to get a native resolution signal.

The Steam listing will be delisted on July 26th, 2022: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app ... 2746913127
The GOG version might follow soon after.

Sadly so, while key sellers still have the game for sale, who knows if those will get pulled eventually. Though yeah, who knows if the delisting would mean that the Mikado Remix version might get ported to PC (in both Steam/GoG).

It'll be cool if Mikado comes to Steam eventually, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. Their reason for delisting simply says, "Our publishing deal is expiring." I guess they don't want to renew. Bummer.

For a while Moss' games had been published by H2 Interactive (outside of Japan) but Raiden V Director's Cut and Raiden IV x Mikado have been published all by UFO Interactive.

Back in the day they were kinda like their console overseas publisher (Raiden III for the PS2 and IV/Overkill for the 360 and PS3), but since V DC they're publishing on Steam too, so my guess is that they'll be the ones with the rights to publish xMIKADO there.
