What controller do you use for playing STEAM shmups?

Post by RHE »

I already looked out for Beta Testers in the other thead but now I'm trying to find out what hardware does Shmup players on STEAM really use.
I use a XBox 360 PC Controller. What controllers and arcade sticks would be important to look at?

I must admit I'm quite a console gamer so I need some hints.

I used an Xbox 360 controller in the past, but it's substandard d-pad didn't really work for me.

I now use my Hori FC4 pad, which does double duty for fighting games on PS3/PS4 and PC shmups and emulation.

Can't rule out keyboards I guess. My joysticks are all home made, so they appear as USB Gamepads in Windows.

Either Xbox 360 controller or one of those nice Saturn-style USB pads.

I'm thinking about to get that HORI Fighting Commander 4 controller. Btw, what's the best Hori Arcade Stick for PC?

No experience with the stick but I just want to say that the FC4 is brilliant, best d-pad since the Saturn. Its so good I don't even desire an arcade stick.

Hori Real Arcade Pro. 3 SA for PS3 that is seen as a DirectInput device, but with the stick itself read as a top hat. And a Hori Real Arcade Pro. XE-SA for 360 that is seen as an XInput device, again with the stick reading as a top hat. Standard 360 pad button mapping does not work well for either, so button remapping is important. If you don't support one/either natively, consider adding a launch option to disable stick detection (see https://steamcommunity.com/app/347160/d ... 940255404/), so Joy2Key can do its job without interference.

Keyboard almost always.

Very occasionally Mad Catz Street Fighter X Tekken FightPad, since I got used to playing Eschatos & JSS with that on X360.
If watching the trailer of the game
makes you feel a certain way
I would be very happy if
you would give the game a try
