Component (& VGA?) to HDMI

Got a new TV that has HDMI input only. Got some consoles that output 480p (Component, VGA, and even a D-Video cable for the GC). Anywho, would like to play these on my big TV if possible, and trust people here more than reviews on the interwebs. Recs?

To properly convert VGA is more complicated than component. By VGA I assume you mean Dreamcast ? Best way would be to transcoder DC to component first and then use a component to HDMI converter. For D-terminal to component you need a passive adapter plugs (few hundred yen in Japan, but hard to find outside of JP).

For component to HDMI you can pick almost any converter you can find. Usually great quality and dirt cheap. VGA to HDMI converters are available as well, but you'll lose resolution this way. DC does output at 720x480p, but the converter will sample the input with 640 columns instead, resulting in a resolution loss of 80 pixel columns.

Good info, cheers. And yes, for the VGA I'm talking about the DC. I think I actually have component cables for the GC somewhere, actually, so can go that route. I'll go the D-video route if I have to later.

I might just wind up playing the DC on my computer monitor, but assuming I did want to play it on my TV, what route would you choose specifically to convert the VGA to Component with the least bit of loss. I'm also wondering if lag comes into play here.

none of the cheap converters have any lag.

If you get a $30 VGA to HDMI converter you'll have the same quality as you would have a physical VGA input a LCD TV. That's not bad, but you can do better by trancoding to component first. Hard part here would be to find a transcoder. These have become rather rare.
