M.Knight wrote:I checked the CS mode a bit and you can hear the track I was talking about in the Bankoru mission. It only has one stage + Hungry Gluttons and the track plays during the boss. It is night and day compared to what happens when you fight him in AC mode with World of Spirit in the background.
I suspected it would be Dograce, and surprise, it's Dograce. I agree. It's offbeat, too, which doesn't help its forgettableness.
It's actually from the original DariusBurst, and it plays whenever you fight Hungry or Thousand in Mission Mode (probably due to the stages being disconnected from the bosses there). In the latter's case, a faster version plays.
Heh, the music that plays during the stage isn't that better, either. It's a third Sega Genesis synthesizer (and trust me, I love Genesis synth), a third speedcore, a third FFVIII's The Man with the Machine Gun (don't ask). Easily my least favorite Chronicle Saviours song (save for the stage select theme, but hey, it's the stage select theme).

Speaking of Darius music, I saw ZUNTATA playing a live version of Goodbye My Earth that was myriads better and far more '80s than the version in game. So good. It even had adigital flute played by the guy for extra spacey/On LSD space mecha fishes feel.

Alright, I followed the advice from the previous page and, yeah, I had to clear both normal and alternate routes to complete the score requirement missions in full. Damn, what a grind. At least I got the 250 million score achievement.

edit: how much can we expect dat sweet Iron Fossil to cost? Please tell me not over 6k yen.

Right, so I preordered the Vita version ages ago, then got the steam ver., and now finally the Vita version has arrived.

But I'm wondering really if I should bother to open it, or just sell it on. My laptop goes with me daily whereas my Vita most certainly doesn't, so technically the Steam ver. Is more portable.

I'm wondering if anyone can share their experiences with the Vita ver. and let me know if they think it's worth keeping for any particular reason. I heard arcade mode is pretty tiny.

Gigantic Bite is the stuff of nightmares. I went into the fight with 49 shield and two lives and I still couldn't bring it down.

I like the design, though.

EDIT: And right after I say this, I manage to get the bastard without losing a life (though he did eat through 39 shield points). Perseverance with presets!

Hey me too

I don't really like Hello31337, or most of G Darius' ost (but the songs in it I do like I like very much), although I do like most songs from all older Darius games. Except for Darius' boss themes except for Boss 7. Classic goodness

I really like it, but I don't have any larger port to compare it to. It's really sexy on the OLED screen, and I like the control layout with the Vita, but again: I don't have anything else to compare it to, besides the original on the PSP.

I'd err on the side of passing it on, I guess, since you take your laptop with you wherever you go.

Thanks for the info. I'm still umming and ahhing about it, it's just sitting here on Chinese New Year day and I'm... typing this on my laptop where I can play the same game in retina with a couple clicks and a USB Saturn pad insert.

I think I wanted it because physical, really, but now I'm not so sure that this won't appear again on console in a physical format later down the road. I think it's quite likely.

(Though to be fair, I haven't put much time in this mode if at all.)
It made some sense in the arcade version since you have to pay for each credit, but it gets dumb in CS since you can just push start every time "No more ship left" appears.

The physical aspect was the #1 reason for my purchase on the Vita. #2 would be the fact that I have practically *nothing* for the Vita (Dragon's Crown, Rayman Legends, and perhaps a couple more), and this was an opportunity to show it (and me) some portable love. I think it's the first time I've played something at the gym other than Every Extend Extra on the PSP in quite a while.

I'm curious as to why you think it'll show up in another physical format down the road...I was actually thinking the opposite, which is yet another reason why I wanted any type of physical copy I could obtain. I was really surprised and happy that they were actually porting it to physical form via the Vita. It almost seemed an homage to the original on PSP that way, and there are no DB:AC cabinets around here. I'm still aghast at what the original on the PSP goes for used, too, so I didn't want to be on the outside looking in when the price probably goes up into the stratosphere.

Of course, if it does appear physically somewhere else, that might tame that particular tiger, a la Ikaruga on the Dreamcast, when it began appearing on other platforms.

Just a hunch. I'm usually very good with market moves and predictions for whatever reason (I called the arcade port we're all playing now absolutely ages ago, and here it is!)

I just feel the opportunity to milk this one isn't over for Taito. They're throwing out non-physical options for an arm and a leg, and there's a spectacularly overpriced Vita LE. I can just see a physical LE, perhaps with the current DLC included on disc appearing on PS4 or something later down the road. I just don't feel they're done exploiting this one permanently.

Could be wrong.

Now, seeing the current PSP Burst prices is making me think twice about selling the Vita one. Some of them are absolutely absurdly priced, but I'm surprised even at the £50 copies.

DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)

Post by Rupert H »

Having just spent around 40 hours on flights in the past two weeks, I can say that the Vita version's accessibility has been a Godsend. I've absolutely ripped through CS mode, all which cross-saves to the PS4 version when I get home. It looks stunning on the OLED, and aside from the minor frame-drops on the massive zakko clusters, it runs beautifully. The LE is a wonderful package too.

Obviously you can forget AC mode though - 32:9 is unplayable on a screen that size, as you'd expect.

If you're happy with your laptop set-up, I wouldn't bother. For me though, whipping the Vita out of my pocket for a 20 minute bus journey is the ultimate convenience.

Shit. Is AC/EX really useless? Because I spent the majority of my time with CS on Steam and have been holding off on taking on EX (AC I already thoroughly cleared in the arcade).

Basically I probably wouldn't go back to CS all over again on Vita.

Last time I took the bullet train I killed a very comfortable 8 hour round trip with my laptop and a pair of headphones, so I'm struggling to justify the portability aspect. I'd just be doing my starved Vita a favour by feeding it something.

Well, you're in a good spot. You've already got the thing, and it's not even the idiotically-priced LE, so you can always pass it on later down the line. Since you can be portable with your laptop (I can't have the laptop in my hands while I'm on the stationary bike at the gym), it sounds like in terms of game play, you're pretty much all set.

Yes. I tried it once on Vita and found it to be absurd. I now play AC exclusively at home and CS on the go. EX is godlike.

Apologies if this has already been covered, but there are 57 pages to go through.

I'm having difficulty initiating the beam duel, and I'd appreciate if somebody could assist me. So far I am waiting until the third chime, then firing off my burst. I die 7/10 times, but occasionally it initiates. I just can't work out what I'm supposed to do to get it to work. What am I doing wrong?

Also, do I have to manually upload my save data for the cross-save, or does it do it itself?

Thanks much.

would many here in this thread like a background showcase of all dariusburst backgrounds?

Definitely - that's a really cool idea, and though many of the backgrounds are fairly sparse and utilitarian, there are still plenty of interesting things to see. I'd like to see a showcase for Zone Z, the Great Thing stage that's modelled on the underwater levels from the original Darius.

Edit: maybe they could, where appropriate, be accompanied by notes explaining such details. There are stages that are modelled directly on ones from Gaiden, for example, and the swirling 'Storm Causer' clouds are used extensively...

I personally find it easier in most cases to use the "cut-in" method, where you stay out of the way of the beam when it initially fires, then move into it and press the burst button right as you're crossing the beam. Icarus posted a picture showing where you're supposed to press the button but I have no idea what page it's on. I also posted a video of me running ORV with a Padlight display so you can see the timing of the button presses along with the result. I recommend playing it at 0.25x speed so you can clearly see the timing. Note that there's a one-frame delay on the Padlight display but the window for counterbursting is more than one frame anyway so it doesn't matter much.

When you collide with an enemy burst, there is a short period before you actually take damage from it. If you fire during this window, your Burst will turn into a counter.

An example of a cut-in can be found here (thanks Steelix100!); note that the ship crosses the beam almost completely before deploying the Burst.

I have a few questions to ask. Is Azure Nightmare a good guy all along? Because I read on the Villains Wiki that, despite fighting and defeating it as a boss, it's actually guiding you to Gigantic Bite. Also, is there any main stage outside of the secret stage in the CS Mode where you fight G.T.B?

It's actually G.T.V. that shows up in the secret mission, not G.T.B.. As far as I know G.T.B. only shows up in Chronicle Mode.

There is definitely one CS substage with GTB. Possibly two, but I'm not at home and can't confirm.

Ah, didn't know that, as I haven't played CS mode much. The secret mission is definitely G.T.V. though.

Your help appreciated guys, mind's made up; I won't be opening it but I will be keeping it in case there's no other physical copy down the road. Amiami's preorder discount made it very cheap anyway.

I'll stick to Steam for now. Need to finish CS mode but I keep using every spare gaming opportunity to try and get the Maldita Castilla 1cc. Gamez,gamez,gamez!!!1!1

Rupert, let's see some pics of this £100+ LE you bagged then - I think you're the only guy here that bought it!

The fact is that you're actually *playing* a non-pirated, legitimately-purchased version of the game, too. I opened mine precisely because I had every intention of playing the thing...it's why I bought it. You're already playing it. No need to unseal it for enjoyment.
