8bit Music Power

Post by Turrican »

The composers of titles such as Xevious, Recca, Star Soldier, Meikyuu Kumikyoku and Metal Gear, among several other talented guys, have come up with this:

Isn't that friggin' awesome?

p.s. I know, there's a "flavor of the month VG music" thread, but this one deserves the spotlight.

Me neither, I've not played it in like two years. It's easy enough that you can devote 90% brain runtime to the choons anyway.

I had rancor pre-order me a copy back in December when this was announced. Should be getting the cart this week, hopefully.

For the first time in over two decades, Nintendo's flagship console, the legendary Famicom, will be getting an exclusive mixtape of music penned and programmed by top tier musicians
I wanna know what mixtape in the form of a cartridge was released 20+ years ago... :?:

BIL, that's not Tappi Iwase on there. The person who submitted the album to vgmdb was obviously mistaken.

I had not even heard about this. There are copies available on Amazon and EBay and I managed to buy a copy.

Thanks for the notice.

Unfortunately I don't have a Famicom original, but I will pay for one someday.

The game just blows my mind from basically every aspect and the music is no exception.

Aw crumbs :o Thanks - out of interest, might it be the same Tappy you mentioned in this thread a while back? That'd actually be even cooler, haha. Seems to be a fairly common Japanese VGM sobriquet otherwise!

Cool stuff. While listening, you can mute any of the Pulse ch1, Pulse ch2, Triangle, Noise and DeltaPCM channels at will. Should be interesting to some. There are also two simple minigames with several difficulties for each. In one you try to collect coins, in the other you dodge stars. The latter could be a fun little diversion for shmupper-types.

Each track has some accompanying images and/or animation to them, and out of the songs themselves I'm liking Circus Game and Oriental Mystique the most so far. But I don't think any of them are as good as the greatest Famicom/NES music we're already familiar with, like tunes from Ninja Gaiden, Mega Man or any of Tim Follin's works.
