Mimo Genius II Ordering
I finally decided to order MG II from italy, is there a better place to order in europe for price?
I think natural occuring scanlines on 240p is sweeter imo than 480p and fake SLG3000...
Will connect xbox360 via VGA..
Soo, whatelse do i need for this project? When i order the device, is there something else i have to
order from the manufacturer like power device or adapter/converter, special cable the like?
Who lend a helping hand please?
Thanks

a power cable with a 2-pin molex connector is included, but no PSU. If I remember right you need a 12V1A PSU. You have to cut off it's connector and install the included power cable/connector instead.
Input and output on the Genius II can be handled using standard HD15/VGA type of connectors. There's a 6-pin molex output as well, on which you might be able to get C-sync instead of H/V-sync instead, but it will depend on your monitor which sync type or connector is easier for you to work with.

Hi fudoh,
thanks for replying, will be connected to PVM2950QM OR BVM-20F1E (new addition
)
the PVM2950QM looks incredible in tate mode right now with 480i mushi on xbox 360...
battle garegga on saturn in 240p on PVM2950QM looks the bomb, too !
Anyhow, the MG II will be around 350,- EUR inkl. ship and taxes (22%) from Italy..
Beefy price for beefy monitors..
Fudoh: Is this worth the money?
I appreciate your answer!
Cheers

Hello,
I actually just sold my Mimo. If I remember correctly you need a 12v 1.5a AC power supply. Its pretty easy to put together as long as you have some soldering skills and heat shrink tubing.
Enjoy 240p!

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
his main source for the BVM is a PC running MAME and this way you can get native 15khz output. On a console like the 360 there's no way around this though. A scan conversion down to 15khz is your only way to get proper 240p output.

On a PC/MAME/BVM setup you don't need a scan converter. He was using the Mimo for different sources before that.

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
Hi there,
Yes, it is absolutely the "gold" standard.
In my "old" setup I ran MAME through the original Xbox for arcade games. As Fudoh mentioned, I recently built a GroovyMame PC, so I no longer needed the Mimo II for the 480p to 240p conversion. I also used to apply scaliness to the GC's GBA Player, but since Swiss can now force 240p, I no longer needed it for this. Lastly, I used the Mimo with the Dreamcast. I'm just living without 240p for that console. I always wanted to try it with the 360, but I never got around to it.
I'm also trying to "simplify" my setup(s) some and this was a way to do that. If you want the best, go for it. When I picked this up 2 (or 3?) years ago it cost me well over $400 because of the exchange rate. I don't regret the purchase.
Best Regards

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
I am also planning to hook up my xbox360 to my bvm-d32. I already own an extron rgb interface that I currently use to hook up my mame pc to the bvm.
should I really spend the money for a Mimo Genius in order to get 240p or should I just add a VSC in between? how bad is the 240p from the extron vsc+rgb compared to the mimo genius?

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
Hi, thank you, PM Answered. For anyone curious why i am selling so fast again?
Simple. I want the "real" thing, ie. real arcade cave PCBs, was using the mimo to downscale my japanese
xbox360 from 480i to 240p using a UMSA to my 2950QM PVM
I also posted some pics in the thread "Show us your tate setup...":

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
St4rwalker, why would you convert 480i to 480p? wouldn't it look better if you had your 360 outputting 480p when doing the conversion? also, what was it about the 240p image that you found displeasing?
I was under the impression that the Mimo Genius II could produce an output that looked about as good, if not maybe a little better than a native 240p signal.

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
It depends on the 360 Cave games. For games like Espgaluda II and Mushimesama (the first one and Futari), downscaling in 240p via Mimo looks good. On the contrary, games such as Ketsui, Muchi Muchi Pork and Pink Sweets are a total mess when you downscale them in 240p, whatever the display/zoom settings you choose... there is an awful blurry effect and those wavy vertical lines. It's not the fault of the Mimo tho, it's due to the messy ports by 5pb/Cave in terms of display...

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
I'm with you on Ketsui (due to the prescaling), but MMP and PS are pixel perfect ports, so I have no idea what's going on there.

Re: Mimo Genius II Ordering
hi sorry been busy, will answer pm soon. As for the conversion, mistake by me. I mean xbox 360 vga 480p output to 240p via the mimo ii of course (not 480i). As for the quality, well it is actually really nice, i just want to get rid of the xbox360 since IMHO it is still a conversion of the "real" game ie. a cave pcb. I just want the real thing, not a conversion. i am not hoping to get even better graphic quality with a 240p pcb board.
