Just letting you guys know Tim has been very busy and hasn't been able to get to the new pof files yet. He's aiming to get them done tomorrow.

Tim's update files uploaded!

http://www.firebrandx.com/downloads/nes ... 0-2016.zip

The package contains 3 versions as follows:

1. Playchoice 10 >>>>> YUV-V3 >>>>> Unsaturated-V5

2. Playchoice 10 >>>>> YUV-V3 >>>>> FCUX

3. Playchoice 10 >>>>> Unsaturated-V5 >>>>> FCUX

This will cover all variants of tastes. Also note that these make use of a new "version 5" Unsaturated palette. This is the same as version 4, only the cyan colors were adjusted to match the consistency of the YUV-V3 palette. This makes Zelda's level 1 dungeon look much better and more faithful to the original look.

I myself updated my board with the YUV-V3 and Unsaturated-V5 combo, and it looks great!

I don't know if this is protocol but I feel this needs either a renewed thread or an edit of the first post to include the links and comparisons pictures in one place so that everyone coming in finds it with ease! :)

EDIT: Since FBX didn't make the initial post, my guess would be new thread? Maybe something like "New NESRGB palette's released" or something better. :)

Wish I could install it but unfortunately I didn't mod my console so I wouldn't be able to get this patched up.

Probably a good idea. Since I'm 'fairly sure' the palettes are exactly as I want them, it may be safe to do a separate thread with pics. I'll get started on it.

Also I just updated the Framemeister to the new 2.02 firmware, and it still incorrectly converts colors in HDMI RGB mode. Once again there are only two ways around this:

1. Switch to DVI 1080p mode. This can be difficult to set up as the default resolution in DVI mode isn't compatible with most LCD displays. I ended up having to use my computer's monitor to navigate the Framemeister's menu in DVI mode so I could see to set it to 1080p.

2. Power on the game and display before turning on the Framemeister. This will force the Framemeister to convert to YPbPr and display colors properly. Downside of this mode is powering off the console or switching inputs will cause the Framemeister to revert back to incorrect color output.

Has anyone reported this to Micomsoft? It seems ironic to have to rely on YPbPr to get correct RGB output.

Rec.709 standards are the same in Japan and North America aren't they?

Though I've had to take a couple weeks off, Fudoh and I were compiling a new full documentation of all the issues and errors with the Framemeister. I'll be able to get back to it next week as I promised to do some video captures demonstrating some of the issues.

PBX: so what's the difference between YUV-V3 and Unsaturated-V5? I thought the difference for most games would be so tiny that only the most trained eye would notice it. Can you post pics showing differences?

I personally think the difference between the two is readily apparent in most games; the most obvious of which is the saturation level of colours (i.e vibrancy). To see for yourself, load up roms in Nestopia, and toggle in realtime between the two palettes to check it out for yourself. More info on FBX's page: http://www.firebrandx.com/nespalette.html
