I called it 'raiden five shit' wherein 'shit' is merely another word for 'stuff'. Take a fuckin chill pill. I don't give a flying fuck what platform it's on, because it looks incredibly underwhelming and I'd rather play the couple hundred 80s and 90s shooters that appeal to me much more.Astro City II wrote:Are you honestly doing all of this vitriol/crying because it's not on the PS4? They probably won't even advertise the game in Japan, being as niche as it is. When's the last time you saw a legitimate marketing campaign for a shmup in Japan? It just doesn't happen anymore. These things are generally just internet forum/word of mouth stuff, just like it is in the West.pegboy wrote: Are you saying that they are advertising and selling this game outside of japan? Could have fooled me.
Nobody except a few extremely hardcore people on this forum even know this thing exists.
Sony did nothing. Nintendo had region-free games on Game Boy and DS systems many years before Sony ever did on any platform.antron wrote:Thanks Sony. For real.Shepardus wrote:Xbox One is not region-locked. (It was originally planned but they took it out before its release.)

Just watched trap15's reupload.
Looks alright for the most part.
Stage 1 seems mostly boring on normal difficulty, and visually bland until the part where the ship weaves around between the skyscrapers.
Stage 2 looks much better both in terms of challenge and visuals, especially in the canyon and cave sections.
I think the character designs are fine. The captain looks kind of goofy, but that was probably intentional. The operator looks nice. The sky pirate guy looks kinda badass. They look better than anything in Varstray or Ginga Force imo.
As for sales predictions, I unironically believe that it will sell ~4,000 copies within the first couple of weeks.

I think I'm going to cancel my pre order until I hear more of the music. I liked the Stage 1 theme, which was the one featured in the trailer, but I want to hear more. Gameplay wise it looks alright, but I feel like there are very few enemies on screen compared to past games. I'm sure someone on here might sell their copy after being disappointed shortly after release. Or I'll just wait for a North American English release or PS4 release. I did like the aircraft design and mentions of actual real world countries' militaries. Also, there are probably more characters, because the trailer showed 5 silhouettes. I don't think we got to see the pilots yet.

I will buy it eventually, just not now. I need to buy a year of PlayStation Plus anyway, so that's where my money is going right now. I still would've liked to have the physical soundtrack though. I'm sure the music won't be as bad as most of Raiden III's or the Raiden Fighters games.ACSeraph wrote:Game is officially fucked; even their biggest fan has betrayed them. Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
Don't overreact and stay on target. MOSS Co. Ltd. struggled to get to the point of actually releasing whatever "Raiden V" will end up being† so just be a bit more patient. Sure, it is probably a good idea to curb your expectation of "Raiden V" being the "best Raiden ever" - by all accounts it can turn out to be simply "meh" and less popular than even Raiden III but it could also be interesting for entirely different reasons. It would take a lot for it to beat the disappointment level of Sakura Flamingo Archives.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I think I'm going to cancel my pre order until I hear more of the music.
†I suspect that the original Raiden V concept turned out to be too ambitious and they changed to the only concept they could afford to do - a Raiden IV "reboot" (which frankly is probably true of any Raiden "N" release).
Also remember what happened with (Raiden IV Overkill, Caladrius Blaze). Their announced release dates were (2014-04-15, 2014-06-26) but their actual release dates were (2014-04-29, 2014-08-28). Even though the situation is probably much tighter for MOSS Co. Ltd than it was 2 years ago they'll probably still deliver a "working" (if "uninspired") product.
I'm expecting this print run to be miniscule - so this hedge may not work. Even if the game is mediocre, rarity could easily drive the price of used copies up (I wouldn't bank on it though). AmiAmi is still the best bet for getting a new Xbox One physical copy at the best price. Could you use your cash for something better right now? Sure - but this could be your only window for purchasing the first release physical OST (& game‡) at a "reasonable" cost (not that I'm endorsing speculative purchases). Physical releases are going extinct. And while I firmly believe that H2 Interactive will bring this digitally to PS4/PC it is at this point pure speculation. And whether MOSS Co. Ltd will stick around long enough for a worldwide digital Xbox One release of Raiden V is anybody's guess.Furry Fox Jet Pilot wrote:I'm sure someone on here might sell their copy after being disappointed shortly after release.
‡ I'm still cringing at the possibility of MOSS Co. Ltd cutting corners and pulling "a Terraria" on us - Xbox One case, OST CD in the disc holder and a leaflet with a DLC code for the game.KAI wrote:Still more hyped about the OST than the game. RIP Raiden.

I've just seen the video and doesn't look really good though I'm sure he was playing some kind of noob mode or something loike that. Really low enemies number and bullets, which are also SLOOOOOW as hell.
As someone said earlier is not the best marketing to show your game with that kind of setting, even more if you're targetting the hardcore base.
We'll se how it turns out. Raiden IV wasn't that bad, was an enjoyable game even with his faults.

So, I changed my mind after reading everything, and I ordered it again. I figured I might as well get it now while supplies last. MOSS might not be around for too much longer, and chances are this might not even get a North American release.

Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
I went on Play Asia to see what the state of pre-ordering was and the listing has this (the Cheer System part has been mentioned before) which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence:
Hopefully that sort of nonsense is in its own mode or something. Not that more than about 12 people will ever be online at once (probably still be easier to find players than Tatsunoko vs. Capcom)...Raiden V will make use the Xbox One cloud to acquire the player data of other players in real-time. Players will able to trace the trails of their friends to help others out of tough areas. The battlefield will also change in real-time based on the actions of both the player and their friends. Players will even be able encourage other players online using the one-button "Cheer System."
Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
I'm not disappointed in what I'm seeing. It looks like they tried to capture the look and feel of the old Raiden games.
Gameplay could still be boring though but I wouldn't judge it just from this video.
Also I wonder if it will feature a Tate mode? The gamescreen is 3:4, isn't it?
I'm 100% sure this will end up on PS4 or Steam after a year or so, when the exclusive deal with MS has ended.

The game screen appears to be 1:1 or close. The reason they got rid of horizontal scrolling is because they increased the screen width to fit the whole area.

Yeah, I don't think I would count on tate in this. At the very least, not a tate mode compatible with 4:3 screens thanks to the added width.
Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
Yeah, no way will this have tate or 4:3 support.
Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
This game seems to be using Azure servers for one of its modes, so a PS4 port seems highly unlikely to me. I guess MOSS could switch to a different service, or replace/remove the mode, but I don't see them going through the effort needed. A PC port might happen at some point though.antares wrote:I'm 100% sure this will end up on PS4 or Steam after a year or so, when the exclusive deal with MS has ended.

I guess the new screen size and cloud features rule out the possibility of an arcade version of the game as well.
Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
I watched the muted video (I couldn't listen to the two overreacting women chatterboxes anymore), and... well, I'm underwhelmed thus far. I liked RIII, and really liked RIV. This looks like a step back rather than a step forward in terms of visual design, enemy patterns and such, despite that some parts of the backgrounds were nice. Would have liked to have gotten to hear the music, too.

It's like most of the enemies called in sick and missed work. The Raiden V baddies are running on a skeleton crew.

Maybe the Cranassians were space pirates the whole time?
Re: Raiden V for Xbox One in 2015
I just watched the video and I'm mixed on it. It feels like it's taking more after Raiden III, which I wouldn't say is a very good thing--way too many fast-scrolling sections, for instance. Even the slow scrolling areas feel bland with repetitive enemy placement, not the constant and interesting flow we got with Raiden IV. I do find it interesting how stages are broken down into "Scenes" now. Not really sure why they went with that design choice--maybe for the branching paths? I don't know. Overall, from what I can see so far, it feels very uninspired. There are fast bullets, but not much else. Verdict is out on the visuals until I can see it in HD, and likewise with the sound until some gameplay surfaces without screeching chipmunks in the background.

There seems to be some confusion over the region-freeness of Nintendo's handheld games. DS *games* are region-free, 3DS *games* are region-locked. This means that you can play Japanese DS games on a North American 3DS, but not Japanese 3DS games.
I don't think that stripping the cloud features will take as much effort as someone might think. If no PS4 port ever comes out, I don't think the cloud features will be the reason.Cuilan wrote:This game seems to be using Azure servers for one of its modes, so a PS4 port seems highly unlikely to me.
