How do you keep your non savable scores?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

I've never really bothered to save scores for old games, even in MAME using save states.

I had an old score saving program I wrote at one time, but don't know if there is interest enough to re implement for public distribution.
It let you make score tables, save by game and even keep notes and such for cheat codes.

Now that I think about it, it might be cool to have a stand with dowels and number beads on them to make a physical score table for group competitions.
When a player moves position you just pull the entire row off and swap it since everything is on the dowel.
Maybe have 3 letter spaces, then x many number spaces, and an extra position for a color to mark the ship of difficulty.
I could be high as a kite on caffeine though.

How are you guys saving scores for old stuff?
Notepads?
Spreadsheets?
...Napkins?
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Lots of folks use Restart Syndrome: http://restartsyndrome.com/

I personally have a JSON file that I feed my scores into if it's notable (for me), and it renders out to this: http://daifukkat.su/scores/

The JSON being here: http://daifukkat.su/scores/data.json

MAME stuff is pretty much the only thing I have that doesn't save scores (there's a couple others but I never really cared about scoring in them), and for that I just take screenshots and record input files, all kept in the MAME folder. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I usually don't bother keeping track of scores for games that I haven't cleared, Battle Bakraid being the main exception. If I weren't lazy I would probably use Restart Syndrome.

If it's something I'm going to post in a high score thread then I take a picture, otherwise I don't bother.

Screenshots. If it's MAME or Steam, just press F12 and it's automatically saved to a folder. Otherwise, I take a pic with my phone and transfer it to the PC.

I got my own website to post them on. Otherwise I'd be using restartsyndrome.

Many of my SH3 boards save scores. For any game I'm putting time into that doesn't I keep a notepad and pen beside the cab to keep track.

A giant .txt file with current high scores/1ccs and a giant .txt file for 1ccs in chronological order. If it's in Mame or an emulator I'll take a screenshot.

Been using that method for 15 years.

Photos, though this usually leads to me deleting them a couple years later when I don't care anymore because I want to "clean up" my hard drive/web space.

I read that with a no-CD patch, played without disk in drive, OutRun 2006 (PC version) doesn't save scores (OutRun miles and unlocked content stay preserved, though).

I have quite the collection of Psikyo sidescrolls. This one I won on Yahoo Auctions and was one of the few auctions I've won which was contested. I paid approx £60 plus fees and shipping for that bad boy but I haven't seen another before nor since.

Now, who has a Daraku Tenshi side scroll for sale???

Cheers,

Ralph.

Same here

I use RS too, mainly because it's nice to see where we stand when compared with other fellow players - aside from the boards of this forum that is.
