Searching for a space synth song
Searching for a space synth song
Hope this topic is OK...
I have been searching for a space synth song, maybe from the late 70's and 80's. I remember hearing this song on a school visit to a planetarium in 1st or 2nd grade, so 1989 to 1990. The synth style is the same as Europe's Final Countdown, but more "space" sounding. I have been hearing to Jean Michel Jarre's songs, but found nothing so far.
I know it's a long shot, but could someone please help me? Thank you.

I, i found it at last! It was "Quatrième rendez-vous" by Jean Michel Jarre! Oh, so this is what nostalgia feels like.
That's it, thank you anyway!

Then again is always Yellow Magic Orchestra, Kraftwerk, and Zuntata.
There is a lot of faux retro 80's synth out these days too.

Escape Velocity by Dynatron is great. (Even as a workout tune)

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Electric Light Orchestra's Time album is the best concept album ever made, in my opinion. And it has cool synths.

Just not sure how that guy isn't out of breath half-way through.
Edit: I was heading to bed, now I'm exploring more of Koto's library instead....oh well.

Best concept album I ever heard is... relatively unheard of, but a guy emailed me over Discogs to ask if I'd sell my vinyl. Not electronic or synth, but dope. Twilight is dope, and Daicon IV made it even better.soprano1 wrote:Electric Light Orchestra's Time album is the best concept album ever made, in my opinion. And it has cool synths.

Apparently true, I'm just not sure what it says about me that I'm probably looping this for the third day straight now:jonny5 wrote:Koto is a synth pop virus... There is no cure

Never really got a good look on Dragon's Lair before but I must say it looks very nice (not just because of hot princess) - very nice atmosphere and better animated than I thought it would be.
Question:
Is this kind of music also within the scope of the thread or am I straying a bit too far away?

C is for Children's Workshop Thread Takeover
In all seriousness, good stuff here, and I don't mention Sesame Street by accident - something that has had me scratching my head for a very long time is the source of a space-themed music video they released back around the time of these works (the '80s, I'm sure of it - no older or newer) wish a mashup of various NASA CG clips and the like. I barely remember anything about it at this point except that they had part of this video spliced in, specifically the bit where the spacecraft is rotating (around 1:10). Yes, this has music, too!
I never really got Michel Jarre until I gave the links here a listen. I've seen some videos of his stuff before, but it clicked this time. I like this better though, spooky!
Just when I thought the music of the '80s was mostly played out. How dumb a thing to think!
One last thing - are all you folks familiar with the Voyager space recordings? They're awesome! They are one of the audio things I will never let go. Might be a bit involved to find the "real" versions since there was some clown running around a while back messing with them, but they're out there.

Seriously, I'm at the point where if someone asks me for a favorite music genre I think this is my answer.

If you want to get really trippy and avant grade, check out any of Richard Teitelbaums or Morton Sabotnik's work on the Buchla. Seriously good. I've probably spelled both of their names wrong though...

Re: Searching for a space synth song
Fantastic thread.
How about this ambient string synth workout from the Flash Gordon soundtrack by Queen. Composed by the drummer apparently.

The Solina string synth was the sound of outer space in the 70's and 80's. I'll buy one eventually.

Have you heard Oriental Magnetic Yellow? A YMO parody band consisting of Namco Sound Team members. They released several albums and did really cool live performances:Pixel_Outlaw wrote:Yellow Magic Orchestra

Definitely worth a listen. Some of it I like much more than the majority of Hosono's, Sakamoto's and Takahashi's post-YMO projects.
