Thanks for the advice guys, finally managed to get past Phantom Castle without continuing. Rubbish scores for the time being though. I have to polish K stage a bit and an 1CC should be close. L seems better for scoring but Hungry Gluttons looks scary and Dark Helios on the other hand is pretty easy.
Stop playing without a plan, have a strategy, learn to use the burst to shield yourself, watch a video to see how more experienced players tackle problem areas. You should probably read a bit on the genre's basics, too. You are missing most of the fun by playing the way you are.xxx1993 wrote:It's too hard for me to beat it without buying. Hungry Gluttons is actually pretty easy, just takes a while.

^Yeah I think so too, actually he's the easiest final boss of Original mode for me using a non-burst ship.
Another tip for Phantom Castle that I've found really useful lately: There's a huge point blank opportunity right as he's shedding his armor. Back off for a sec as he sheds most of it, and when you see he's only got those two rectangular pieces left on his sides rush right into his face and point blank him with your missiles. You'll do so much Damage to him that he will go right into his Burst laser attack, which you can counter, or just go above him and continue point blanking. I've killed him before doing this before he even went into further attacks, but even if he does start with the curvy laser shenanigans you have still likely dramatically cut down the length of the fight.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Huh, the only time I faced Gluttons I got overwhelmed by all the shit it shoots, so I just sticked to Helios/Sylvalion that seemed much easier.
I kind of did the point blank thing, but not near enough for the missiles to hit. It really makes a difference, that detail. Thanks for the tip.

This is funny because in the original PSP version I always thought Helios was the hardest boss lolHagane wrote:Huh, the only time I faced Gluttons I got overwhelmed by all the shit it shoots, so I just sticked to Helios/Sylvalion that seemed much easier.
The addition of a second screen really mitigates any and all threats it used to pose
And Hungry Gluttons is harder in DBAC because it doesn't give infinite meter anymore (although the second screen makes it a lot easier too so maybe it's not actually harder at all)

OP isn't the right word. Murakumo doesn't have raw power. It has unmatched versatility.

Murakumo's actually OPCaptain wrote:OP isn't the right word. Murakumo doesn't have raw power. It has unmatched versatility.
It can make up for its lack of raw power by spamming its Burst Finish. Which is very spammable. And extremely strong when spammed.
Why Murakumo is OP:
1. Burst meter depletes slowly
2. Burst meter replenishes fast
3. 3 very useful formations of 4 support units that block bullets
4. Can cancel out laser and missile type bullets whenever it feels like it
5. Support units only worth 1/4 of meter (aka they come back really fast)
6. Burst finish is very powerful and lasts a very long time
7. Burst finish also destroys bullets
8. Homing bombs
9. Not slow (aka faster than Legend and Next)
Basically it can do what a lot of other ships can do except better AND at the same time AND with other unique bonuses too. At the cost of being one of the weakest ships (one of the weakest or the weakest?), Murakumo' pros outweigh its con. Probably the only thing it really loses out on is scoring.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
It also lets you counterburst without having to time it, similar to Genesis, while still letting you start and stop the burst at will unlike Genesis. Like Genesis, the options can be very useful for point-blank damage even if your main shot is the laser type that can't point-blank effectively. Something that's easy to miss (or at least I didn't realize it for a while) is that if your options are the missile type they rotate in the opposite direction of your motion (similar to Garegga's trace formation), but only if you're not shooting. I haven't tested yet whether kills with option shots or option ramming gives multipliers like it does for Genesis.Steelix100 wrote:Why Murakumo is OP:

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I'm starting to get the hang of basic Burst Counter (as in, timing it so it goes off at the same time as the enemy's), still totes awful with cut-in counter.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
A very basic technique that is easy to implement and will give you good results is to simply make a "wall" with the burst; go up, press burst twice to set it up and then move it downwards so it cuts the screen in half (a diagonal line seems to be most effective). Do it at spots with many bullets, enemies or other destructible things (like asteroids) so it refills automatically. When enemies/bullets start to thin, press burst again to get it back again so you don't waste meter.
It stops nearly everything, so burst deployment at key areas will make survival much easier.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Next seems to be designed with that strategy in mind, since the Fixed Burst moves quickly with it and in the direction of the ship rather than away from it, to boot.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I pre-ordered and got the Chronicle Saviours OST while I was in Tokyo and when I opened the booklet it seems the singer actually did something related to gospel and she does appear to be Japanese either. So, yeah, expecting gospel memes with mecha fishes. Finally being able to read the lyrics, they are quite nice. Still, Freedom has to be the best/worst shmup song at the same time. It has been growing on me though, and the rest of the OST is great regardless.
Shame I couldn't get the Another Chronicle OST... Out of stock everywhere, ugh. Did manage to get the original Dariusburst OST with the Great Thing theme.
Well, all in all, seems this one release was one of the highest profile releases in a while. And now we have Raiden V dropping as well.
I need to get back and play more of CS mode. Are there any guides on optimal routes to clear it already?

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
So the full version of Freedom has been uploaded. Here's my shot on deciphering Freedom's lyrics. I put question marks near the parts I'm not entirely sure about:
I rather prefer the BGM version over the full version of Freedom. During the second refrain, a completely unfitting drum track starts playing while the first sound in the song (of the BGM version) is constantly repeated in the background, which simply doesn't fit at all. I don't know why Zuntata picked someone trying too hard to imitate an Afro-American female jazz singer, instead of Remi who did a stunning performance for Another Chronicle (god save me if it was her who did the vocals for Freedom). Especially the 'grant freedom, oh freedom' misses the tone so hard it almost makes me want to stop listening Freedom everytime I hear that part. I'd very gladly hear an arrangement with a different vocalist and a second refrain which doesn't sound so godawful. I'm in a very love/hate relationship with Freedom, I didn't have this much problems appreciating Visionnerz either.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
I wondered if they would fix that for the Steam version, but from those reviews it sounds like they didn't. I have the PS4 version with the artbook, and there are pages that detail chronicles mode and other things and I can't make out much of the text at all. There is no option to zoom (at least on PS4), but it wouldn't help much if the resolution is really as bad as it appears to be.qmish wrote:About artbook DLC in Steam.
