Adapter for 7-pin twist-lock S-Video on JVC TM-1400SU?

I've got a JVC TM-1400SU video monitor. It supports S-Video, but it has an unusual connector, a 7-pin twist-lock connector.

Nobody seems to make adapters for these anymore, and it's strangely using a male input socket, meaning I need a female cable. What are my options? Does anybody know where I can get an adapter? Or should I just try to solder a standard S-Video connector to the monitor? Or should I try to build an adapter cable myself, if I can find one that's compatible?

But I've never built a cable from scratch before, the most I've ever done is make an adapter by soldering two pre-made cables together.

That's certainly a strange connector. I'd first try sourcing a female plug and building an adapter, like you said.

If you don't know the pinout, I'd do the following steps:

1) Using a multimeter, check for continuity between pins and known ground points. The outside metal shell of the bayonet plug is probably a good bet for ground.

2) Once you have ground, solder your S-video connector grounds to that part of your plug.

3) Plug in your S-video signal to your connector, and solder a wire to Luma. Turn on your system.

4) Probe your new connector's pins with a multimeter set to measure voltage to ensure there isn't a voltage source. Identify pins that may hold a voltage.

5) On pins you've confirmed do not hold potentially harmful voltage, try touching your S-video connector's luma wire to various pins until you get an image on screen.

6) Once you have a black and white image, perform a similar guess-and-check for the Chroma line from step 4.

Of course, if you have schematics or a manual with the pinout, you can skip all of that drivel. You can take apart the set as well if you'd like, but at that point I would solder an S-video jack like you've mentioned.

That's the same part I linked in my original post, but there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that it'd actually fit. It has a protrusion on the bottom of the plug, and the JVC port doesn't. The author in that AVS thread never did a followup.

Digikey is also not a good place for buying single parts, due to their expensive shipping costs: they want $18 CAD for that connector after shipping/tax. That's a bit of a pricey gamble.

Mouser is worse, they want $31 CAD for it. They have free shipping on orders over $100 CAD, but $20 CAD shipping on smaller orders. Ugh, you could mail that connector in a letterpost pouch for two bucks.

If it is its pretty expensive and who knows if they will ship to canada. but you are probably not going to find a ready made cable.

Pretty sure that's actually an Amphenol connector, which is fairly common in industrial and military devices. I've got no clue about the pinout though.

Yeah, I wonder if at this point it might be a better idea to just desolder the original connector and stick a panel-mount s-video socket in its place. Assuming that I can do that without electrocuting myself.

Makes you wonder why they thought they needed a seven pin connector for a connection that can't justify more than four pins, and can get away with only three.

As a format creator maybe they originally wanted to make a connector with room for future expansion, as a general-purpose AV connection. Did they want to put sound through it too?

The VTR connector has both sound and video input/output in a single connector (it's composite), but the S-Video connector doesn't seem to have any sound. Or at least I don't see any pinouts that mention that, and it has separate audio inputs/outputs on the panel.

Open it up, remove the socket and install a standard S Video socket
