Now THIS is cool.
Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
He got it quite a while ago actually. I don't know what mameworld thought, maybe some of them @mamedev only realized now ? (that would be worrisome)

He announced it in the Tokyo meetup thread. Can't wait to try it out!

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
You lucky dog! The game looks unbelieveably easy, but play it as much as you can because apparently this is not getting decently emulated before who knows how long.

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
I heard that it also requires specialized hardware to dump correctly, due to the type of ROMs it has. The next big question will be if it has any protection or MCUs that could prevent it from running properly in Mame.Xyga wrote:You lucky dog! Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
Tough. By the way can Aleck64 games somehow get converted into playable N64 format ?

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
Yup. Aleck64 games have all been patched to run on an Everdrive cart.Xyga wrote:Tough. By the way can Aleck64 games somehow get converted into playable N64 format ?

A never released arcade shooter prototype running on Aleck64 hardware (based on the N64).
You can guess prototype board are indeed extremely rare, yes.
Shou is really very dedicated on finding those, and he scored some impressive titles recently, games we thought were lost forever.

What makes this especially interesting is that it looks like a really stylish evolution of 2D gaming mechanics within 3D landscapes, by Seta. Seta's output was inconsistent but this one looked like it might have had some good stuff going on. Even if it doesn't play well (if only we could be so lucky to have yet another good release!) it still should be saved.
There's a bunch of material out there floating around, but here's a narrated (Japanese) gameplay video from last year I've never seen before:

(Not having seen the footage...Was there any link to the Soldier series, even in playstyle? Any caravan elements, or even the shoot enemies faster for more scoring opportunities?)

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
I guess Mamedev isn't in a hurry to at least attempt preliminary emulation for Schwanzer, though, because the other games in the Aleck64 driver are marked as non-working at the moment.

Schwanzer

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
schwein + panzer ?

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
It's a horrifically immature double entendre: "Schwanz" means "tail", but it also refers to the male copulatory organ (as slang, of course).

Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
Variant Schwanzer uses 2D hardware functions that only exist on Aleck64 and not N64 so it won't work as is on consoles.
become history
Re: Shoutime Got Variant Schwanzer
Is it using a new variant of the same CPU? Pretty ambitious for a company Seta's size I would have thought, but I've just read Nintendo collaborated on the system.
