Hi guys i ve bougth a sega saturn very recently
I know you guys probably know everything about the Saturn library
On the other hand I ve only became interested on shumps very recently
So please make a list over games that are not imports and are optimized for pal and are more or less cheap
Also aside from Thunder Force V wich games would you recomend for noobs like me
Darius Gaiden is pretty pricey amd very rare but I don't think Darius 2 is that expensive. Galactic Attack (referred to most often here by the Japanese release name Rayforce) is probably somewhere between the two. Some of the Parodius games made it I think but I've never been able to get into them.
I think they're all pretty uncommon given the Saturn's lower popularity at the time and that everyone was being wowed by 3D graphics so 2D games were dismissed. Your best bet is to get an Action Replay cart and get importing, there's a lot of Japanese releases that can be had quite cheaply.
Donpachi/Dodonpachi/Strikers 1945/Sonic Wings Special are probably good starting points, though prices might have gone up since I got my copies.
Batsugun/Battle Garegga/Thunder Force V are all quite expensive. For Thunder Force V, consider getting the Special Pack version because it comes with an awesome soundtrack CD.
Gekirindan is a personal favourite of mine and is worth a look if you like pre-bullet hell era games.
If you need a look at the Saturn shooter library in its entirety you might want to check this article, which was put together with this forum's help a handful of years ago.
I'll chime in and say there is no best . Its what you like my friend. I've played many games in general and even though some where highly praised , I ended up not liking them. Example is a couple of years ago I bought Galactic Attack after reading so many good things about it. I ended up not liking it as it felt too generic to me. Nothing that made it 'stand out'. As far as pal shooters on the system go, I think you are in the same boat as us from the states. Not much there. You're better off doing what I did. Get an action plus replay cart and import to your hearts content. Just know a lot of these games can get expensive.
