yes-asia or akibagames for DDPDOJ... play-asia RAPES for that game.
I got ESPGaluda on play-asia, for $70, which wasn't bad considering it came with a bonus DVD. why DOJ was $10 more, we may never know....

They came out two years apart, no? Go look at a dollar-yen chart between the two times. That could've been the issue.Zweihander wrote:I got ESPGaluda on play-asia, for $70, which wasn't bad considering it came with a bonus DVD. why DOJ was $10 more, we may never know....

Too bad they can't lower the price for DDP-- hell, it came out earlier, and should be marked down at some point or another... Quite sad, the higher price makes it inaccessible to most. ~_~GaijinPunch wrote:They came out two years apart, no? Go look at a dollar-yen chart between the two times. Personally, I much prefer DDP DOJ to ESPgaluda, for the reasons i will now outline below (ahem clears throat)
Reason 1 - ESPgaluda looks like shit on PS2 compared to DDP
(did the arcade too?)
Reason 2 - ESPgaluda has a good and addictive score system, but then so has DDP DOJ
Reason 3 - DDP DOJ gives me more satisfaction when i slowly get better at it
Reason 4 - DDP DOJ is one of my fave shmups maybe of all time
.lots of longevity like battle garegga
STOP DISSING DDP DOJ YOU GUYS OR I WILL GET ANGRY AND YOU WOULDNT LIKE ME WHEN IM ANGRY

not out-of-print. You can still buy a new copy of it on those sites. Play-asia.com is the only one which absolutely rapes for it. It's as though they don't want to sell them, considering they still remain $20-30 higher than the competitive prices. They simply won't sell unless they mark down.Rob wrote:Haha, oh man. Came out earlier = longer out of print. This isn't a million printed game with a Greatest Hits rerelease.hell, it came out earlier, and should be marked down at some point or another...
In addition to that, I think Cave's popularity has been rising steadily since its release.
I'm not dissing DDP... I'm simply saying: I see what's great about it, but I don't see what's so freaking godly about it. It's just a Cave shmup, and IMHO, the first DDP (which I've played) was better, and (also IMHO) ESPGaluda is better, and more fun. DDP and DDP:DOJ make me want to punch a brick wall.DC906270 wrote:Personally, I much prefer DDP DOJ to ESPgaluda, for the reasons i will now outline below (ahem clears throat)

buy DDP DOJ if you want to get raped in the ass.
Anyway, my personal reasons for <3ing ESPGaluda:
1. ESPGaluda and DDP: DOJ both look like shit on PS2, unless you play them on TATE. Also, since when does how a shmup looks dictate how it plays? I'm sick as fuck of hearing people diss Galuda's sprite graphics, they're quite beautiful IMHO. Draw and animate better, then we'll talk.
2. ESPGaluda has a good, addictive, and versatile scoring system; DDP's is and always has been strict-as-fuck as to what you can and cannot do. I love ESPGaluda's scoring system for its forgiving nature, and the versatility.
Bullet-coin moments are not limited to bombing, large enemies, and bosses-- you and you alone decide when to milk the enemies for coins. Some enemies are worth more as gems than coins, and some are worth going into kakusei mode to reap the rewards. It's all about making that judgement call, which separates ESPGaluda from the rest.
3. ALL Cave games, and the shmup genre in general, give satisfaction as a reward for slowly getting better. But ESPGaluda is definitely a thinking man's game, whereas the other Cave games were more about wanton destruction. (save for the occasional cease-fire in DDP, to ensure enough enemies are on-screen to continue your chain.. which got brutal and annoying, real quick, IMHO.)
4. ESPGaluda is my #1 favorite shmup (and video game, for that matter) of all time. In my eyes, it wins by an ass-hair over Ikaruga, Einhander, and Mushihime-sama. This fact, however, makes my summary and reasons no less biased than the last guy. XD

Don't listen to him, this is incorrect. In fact they're examples of how to do scaling well. Unlike say, Mushi, which does the same then smears it with a blur filter (which looks absolutely horrendous on a larger TV).Zweihander wrote:1. Espgaluda looks kind of blurry though, even in tate
Kind of looks emulated or something
and the espgaluda music is all "bumping techno" style, which has now dated very quickly, whereas DDP DOJ has a timeless classic soundtrack IMO (still electronic though, but think more bladerunner than 2unlimited)

I dunno, I think the audio in Galuda is nice - and I don't even like techno. Makes a change I think. For my money, galuda is the obvious choice here - DOJ is just too damned hard. You can tell as soon as you hit level 3 that it's aimed purely at the die hard Cave loving elite, it even makes Ketsui look easy.

Being OOP is the only reason for P-A to mark it up. Other companies probably don't have this policy and will continue to have the price at $60 (or whatever) until their stock is gone. Then people will have no choice but to buy them from P-A outside of auctions/forums, and I'd bet they've sold a few at $80 already. Eventually they will be sold! See Border Down (they were selling LEs for $140 and now they are gone).Zweihander wrote: not out-of-print. You can still buy a new copy of it on those sites. Just because an importer has remaining stock does not make it in print. If you want the game new, you should get it now from one of the other places because a mark down isn't going to happen.

Whatever you do, if you wind up choosing ESPGaluda, YesAsia won't be the most reliable source. I ordered a copy of it there back in early December, and they replied a week later in an e-mail that their suppliers no longer had it in stock. Nevertheless, they still seem to have it listed as available on the website.

Exactly. I love the fact that I don't have to be reliant on one preset path every time I play, and I don't have to feel disappointed that I'll get a low score and reset if I blow one particular section of a level, unlike DDP where you have to spend so much time memorizing and practicing to get that one big combo on the level.Zweihander wrote:2. And it's like that Engrish on the DVD video (I think)... "the game distressed many people". Damn straight it did.
I LOVE ESPGaluda's music. Almost every tune in the game is awesome... except for the boss music, which is so friggin lame, it makes you wonder why they chose the worst song as the one you'd be hearing the most often. On the flip side, I find all of DOJ's music rather blah except for the boss music, which kicks serious ass. Funny how that works out.DC906270 wrote:and the espgaluda music is all "bumping techno" style, which has now dated very quickly, whereas DDP DOJ has a timeless classic soundtrack IMO (still electronic though, but think more bladerunner than 2unlimited)

I recieved new copies of Espgaluda and Dodonpachi DOJ from Yesasia last week. Cheaper than anywhere else on the web (I think), $67.49 and $60.99 respectively with free shipping to the UK.Xexyz wrote:Whatever you do, if you wind up choosing ESPGaluda, YesAsia won't be the most reliable source. Finding a copy of Mushihime Sama is easier said than done for some reason though
EDIT:Yesasia have since removed DDP from the site but espgaluda is still there.

Every other place selling DDP DOJ at $60, Play-Asia holding their $80 ground... every other place selling out, Play-Asia remains the only source for the game and can charge whatever they like...
it's like the USA's strategy on monopolizing mined oil..... :/
