As Laserdisc is analogue and I was considering picking up another Xrgb-mini to upscale the RGB picture to my Pioneer PDP. But, buying an xrgb just for that purpose seems a bit extravagant, so are there any cheaper alternatives on the market that offer good quality upscaling for this type of device?

Laserdisc upscaling options
I'm wondering if anyone has got any suggestions on how to get the best possible picture out of a laserdisc player and a modern LCD / Plasma TV

There is no RGB image to upscale, Laserdiscs are composite signals. Check the forum, there was another thread recently called deinterlacing 480i Laserdiscs or something along those lines, lots of good discussion there to start out with.

Sorry mine works off scart so I was just assuming it was RGB output (scart-scart) but I guess it must be composite scart - my bad.bobrocks95 wrote:There is no RGB image to upscale, Laserdiscs are composite signals. here's the recent thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=55900
For laserdisc content you essentially want a working film mode in your deinterlacer - that's something the Framemeister lacks completely.

The devices you mention in that thread I can't find for sale in the UK aside for a few odd used units on eBay that look like they've seen better days.Fudoh wrote:here's the recent thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=55900

Any links to new kit available to the UK?

Re: Laserdisc upscaling options
There' nothing new available to do the job. The video processor market is dead and the units aimed at laserdisc processing (including a solid comb filter) have been gone for more than a decade now.
I think I have a nice Faroudja FLI 2200 based unit left, which is a great for LD. http://hometheaterhifi.com/volume_8_4/o ... -2001.html
100 EUR shipped to the UK. Drop me a PM if you're interested.
