It should work as long as they have an open mind and a desire to improve themselves.

To most non-arcade gamers, a 1cc seems like a self-imposed challenge made up by elitists.
Said people just want to have fun without having to face countless deaths, frustration and despair in the process of climbing the Mount Everest with only one credit, while the only reward they get is bragging rights on a farm and maybe a high score.
Some people just aren't interested in pushing their limits and want to take the easy road to victory. Often, a 1cc is indeed the way the developers intend players to win the game, by usually only allowing access to the true final boss if you didn't use a continue. Seeing that in Crimzon Clover is what particularly motivated me to 1cc it all the way.To most newbies, a 1cc challenge just seems artificial. Nowadays, most gamers wouldn't be interested in spending hours over a game that can be finished in 30 minutes using one continue. That spirit of willing to improve your skill has diminished over the years, in favor of quick easy gratification.
But if you go bragging about your microwave dish in a cooking contest to the other chefs who put their very soul in their cooking, then you can quite frankly fuck off.

I feel guilty a bit for getting "boss defeated" achievements in Steam when playing in infinite ship mode. They should have make it that you only get them without continues/infinite lives.

I used to be one of those people who just wanted to beat the game. To hell with the dumb "1cc" nonsense! But as I got more into shmups, got better at video games, and placed more pride on my skill as a gamer, I started to accept 1ccs as a reasonable goal and aim to 1cc games before I can truly say that I "beat" them.

Can't be forced. You either come to the realisation yourself, discovering that it's more fun to attempt single credit runs, or you walk away. Of course the majority walk away or else the genre would be more popular, cos when the hooks are in it's easy to fall for.cave hermit wrote:I wonder if it's actually possible to directly intervene and get somebody to understand the 1CC mentality by explaining it to them, or if one has to gradually come to the conclusion themselves over time; is this something that can really be forced?
That said, pushing someone in the right direction is a decent thing to do, no matter how much they kick up a fuss.

I do like G's soundtrack when playing, a tad less while listening it on its own, unlike Gaiden and Burst's. It goes well with the stages' atmosphere, like the third zones.Steelix100 wrote:Also, I'm surprised you like B.T. Dutch. It's definitely one of my least favorite Darius songs (tbh I don't really like G Darius themes overall, although I find Kimera II and Adam in particular excellent pieces). But rather than that, where's Say Papa? I really liked that song, and its status as Darius II's final stage theme makes it really weird for it to be absent in DBCS.
It's meant to be played during that battle, just like Adam is meant to be played while fighting The Embryon, in my opinion. The latter's dancing on the battlefield while the piano plays is charming.qmish wrote:I ignored B.T. Dutch at first, but started really appreciating it after Queen Fossil battle.
I feel so out of place in this forum during this "conversation". And my sig isn't of any help. I think I need to remove it ASAP, before getting kicked out for not truly finishing the shmups I play. Will try to 1CC at least some of the ones I really love next year. Maybe the easier ones first, tee-hee.

do you like ambient-industrial music?a tad less while listening it on its own
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Not a whole lot. I mean, I don't actively look for it.qmish wrote:do you like ambient-industrial music?a tad less while listening it on its own
I listen (solely) to videogame music because I like videogame music, regardless of the genre. I'd never listed to rap, but Persona 3's there, for example.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Interesting.
I listen to many different genres, but past several years switched to listening VGM mostly. Even if i never played the game.

Sitting here at work listening to the DBCS soundtrack (via Youtube) and I've decided I must have it. Anyone know the cheapest place to get it? Looks like it's around $50 on Ebay, which seems excessive. Also, it looks like there are two different ones. Any information on the differences would be helpful too.

I'm with you there. While in game, I find the atmosphere G's soundtrack provides is rather enjoyable. On their own, they're a lot less enjoyable due to their odd structure. But Burst and Gaiden songs on the other hand, are always good. At least, to me.AxelMill wrote:I do like G's soundtrack when playing, a tad less while listening it on its own, unlike Gaiden and Burst's. 1CC is part of shmups' unique trait. In RPG games, farming to get the best equipments and beat OP bosses to drop powerful ones.
In fighting games, they practice hard to learn combos, the combo could be varied, adjusted, KO, juggling, etc to outsmart opponents.
So it is kinda like Monster Hunter, improve yourself as a hunter but unlike 3DS of MH because of hacked mods, the lazy methods to get materials which is sad.
So, in every genre has their own unique traits that requires patience and your skills shall be rewarded with efforts. Say, given 500+ fights against the same boss will make it unbelievable predictable so you can kill without taking a damage.
I can understand some people wanted to just have fun playing games. But not to shmups and RPGs even MH (And MH genres like God Eater, Soul Sacrifice, etc) that have time consuming and learning curves. It's like not really important to force people themselves to consume their time by playing certain genres or boredom.... For example, do you think it's really necessary to purchase DLC/items to just win when you can handle without troubles? No need to be forced to purchase. Practice a bit and you absolutely handle anything at all.
Skipping practice to just have fun is alright but still, say, you create a new game and release it. They come play it and never bother to improve themselves and say I just had fun thx to never to visit again despite given challenges, expensive prices and the efforts you put it for. In other words, money doesn't matter but having fun is really matter over games? Does it mean all games are just trashes to sell, trade or never bother to play again after beaten the games, does it mean you just play for fun to increase the joy gauge to avoid getting bored just like that? Okay, I'm taking a break from playing Darius but I'm sure when I come back, I gotta wreck so hard! I'm looking at you, Darius trophies! Just wait! And you'll see! Hey Formula is pretty fun!

There's a Dariusburst album, which has music from the PSP game (which was also used in the AC release).
There's an AC album, which includes the Photosynthesis Suite and other music composed for the AC game.
As far as I know the CS soundtrack isn't out yet.
All of Zuntata's stuff is available on iTunes and Amazon if you want to get them cheaper than what you find on ebay and the like. (though a quick look at Amazon indicates you might be able to get the CDs cheaper through them or third party sellers as well)

Well said, I think most people who play games play games as a form of escapism and thus want to play a game for as much time as possible, regardless as to whether said gametime was actually well-designed or exciting in the conventional sense, before seeing the credits and then moving to the next game. This isn't a bad thing in and of itself, and if someone grinds and credit feeds through DB and still enjoys it, then more power to them, as long as they don't show off about their "feats".Durandal wrote:To most non-arcade gamers, a 1cc seems like a self-imposed challenge made up by elitists.

Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Any vids/advice for these two from anyone who has beaten them with preset? These two missions are breaking my balls. Great Thing would be fine if I could get through Thousand Bullets with 10+ ARM. The phase where he turns sideways is pretty rough and I always take a few hits. Dolphin purple lasers also suck but I know how to deal with them--in theory at least.CptRansom wrote:I'm currently stuck on Suba (four stages, Origin, 15 ARM, Great Thing--no powerups) and Ruminia (Gigantic Bite w/ Origin). They both suck.
Gigantic Bite? Hell. No. After his opening salvo, everything just goes to hell for me. I can't read the attacks. Lasers are flying everywhere and turning directions, debris all over the place, those annoying bullets that home on you when you shoot them. All at the same time. I now understand why all the GB videos I've seen have people cowering behind fixed bursts, but that isn't an option for stupid Origin.

How the hell did I miss that.
Thanks! Looks like I need to be a LOT more careful on earlier stages to maximize shields for the big bastard.
So I guess that leaves Suba. I hate Thousand Bullets. I hate Origin. I want to hate Great Thing but it's just so cool.

But that's incorrect. "Bragging rights" is not why people set personal goals and try to meet them in video games, they do it because it's a thrill and the reward is a personal sense of achievement/satisfaction.Durandal wrote: Said people just want to have fun without having to face countless deaths, frustration and despair in the process of climbing the Mount Everest with only one credit, while the only reward they get is bragging rights on a farm and maybe a high score.
Agreed.Durandal wrote:To most newbies, a 1cc challenge just seems artificial.

Agreed.
Well gaming has gone down the shitter, pretty much. There are exceptions though.Durandal wrote:That spirit of willing to improve your skill has diminished over the years, in favor of quick easy gratification.
Agreed, but I think it's a case of your above points tying into this one: quick, easy gratification in gaming and a reduced necessity of skill means a lot of newcomers just don't know how to approach the games. It seems weird to me anyone would proclaim 'beating' a game or kicking a boss's ass when they know full well there wasn't any challenge, but I suppose you gotta start learning somewhere.Durandal wrote:But if you go bragging about your microwave dish in a cooking contest to the other chefs who put their very soul in their cooking, then you can quite frankly fuck off.

Huh? Actually, Gigantic Bite has same bullet patterns of every bosses you encountered if you look closely at all bullet patterns.CptRansom wrote:Gigantic Bite? Hell. Most bullet patterns doesn't target and they are just repeating so you can chill while getting to safe area but each bullet pattern of Gigantic Bite have homing bullets added just to make it harder to react.
Blue bullets, Goblin Sharks, Flash cannons, Stun Guns, Arrow bullets, purple lasers and minions are distracting you from reading the repeated bullet patterns. Luckily, only bullet patterns limited down to 3 max.
Minions, green circle bullets and electric balls are kinda distracting but obviously green ones are dangerous once you hit them, they will target you.
Just fight that boss +500 battles and you will eventually adapt it in no time.
Re: DARIUS BURST CHRONICLE SAVIOURS (STEAM/PS4/Vita)
Watching Zaarock's video showed me how to deal with it enough for the clear. I just rush to get the 90-degree-laser-spamming thing dead ASAP and coast through the patterns (like you said, they're easy with some practice--my problem was the angled laser spam on top of it). I got 14th place out of 14 on Steam, but since it's a main stage mission, I'm guessing most people noped out and used a custom.
Suba is still beyond me for now, but I'll get it. I've got Thousand Bullets dead before the burst laser, so now I need to work on taking fewer hits. And like I said, Great Thing's salvos when he turns sideways really screw me.

CS and AC modes kick my ass, hardcore. The lack of successful counter-bursts is killing me, literally. It makes me want to skip using burst counter ships that aren't the Genesis, because at least I understand the "timing" for the Genesis ship's beam.
Half the ships seem too slow to successfully dodge Mirage Castle's red laser spam. It's such a damn pain and the only way out looks like cheesing it with a burst laser. I assume the boss isn't supposed to live long enough to fire so many red and purple homing lasers at you.

The wonderful thing about Suba is that it gives you the perfect weapon for the mission, and the stages themselves are actually pretty easy (try to clear them without taking damage). You can point blank Great Thing on its first attack (and every time it repeats it) for MASSIVE damage, making the fight a lot faster, but it does make the attack a lot harder to deal with for obvious reasons. For its second attack, something that I often forget is that Origin can not shoot its bombs, which you can do to avoid activating those homing bullet things. Buuut it's very tricky during that attack, because sometimes you NEED to shoot your bombs to deal with the homing fish it shoots. As for Thousand Bullets, he's also immensely neutered by the game's excellent choice of weapon for the mission, just make sure you put more emphasis on not getting hit than on beating him fast. Thousand Bullets is really not hard if you have missiles. Which you do in Suba.CptRansom wrote:Watching Zaarock's video showed me how to deal with it enough for the clear. The stages are definitely easy aside from the derp moments. I do PB GT on first attack, so at least I'm doing that right! Thousand Bullets I'm figuring out and I'm down to consistently taking 3-4 hits instead of 8-9 like when I started this. Things that tend to hit me there: Bullet spread->charge forward (I think I'm dodging it right and then he lets out one more wave at the last second and bam) and purple lasers (I dodge most of these but there's ALWAYS one errant laser that clips me). I honestly never even thought about not holding both buttons down for second attack, so I'll be sure to try that today. Thank you.Steelix100 wrote:The wonderful thing about Suba is that it gives you the perfect weapon for the mission, and the stages themselves are actually pretty easy (try to clear them without taking damage).
