I wouldn't quite call that a fact, but that's all I'm gonna say on the matter here.
Gotta say that I'm pretty interested in how this port will turn out. Never got the chance to play the 360 port and I'm not sure if I can emulate the arcade version accurately, so it's nice to see that we're getting a (hopefully) arcade-accurate port of DeathSmiles. I have to admit that I am interested more in a potential DDP series port than DS right now, though.

This video is of a Windia playthrough, but also has a bunch of the characters' endings starting about halfway through if you need a larger sample. Again, I recall hearing that the PAL version toned the accents down, but I haven't played it myself.
Geez, that's bad. Yeah, I can vouch for the PAL release really, really toning that down.

Urine's exceedingly high "icky" value is scientific fact, yes. Just check the periodic table and see for yourself.

Looks like we made it to page four this time before reverting into the typical DeathSmiles thread. Water will always go where it flows. Good job everyone.
Might as well do my part, too. If but for prosperity.

It's one of those fears that're overrated. Care for a single invalid and you discover it's basically just water that likes to aggressively hug you.

Dude. If that bath scene took place in the middle of some creepy JRPG at least people could argue in some fashion it went along with some creepy storyline somehow relevant to the game. This is a Shmup, it adds NOTHING but a stigma on the entire fanbase. It adds nothing complimentary to the games at all.
A backstory to a shmup is always cool, but this kind of loli piss in a can or the interview where we learn Reco "doesn't wear panties" is just fuel to the fire for people who think all shoot em up fans are creepy touhou loving neck beards.

Blackbird wrote:So about this weird localization/voice acting: Has anyone got an example of this? Curious to see if it's really that bad.
I'll have to see how we're handling localization (usually we do it ourselves).
The Aksys NA localization decided to add regional flair to the dialogue; which apparently means Casper and Follett must speak like German movie villains and Rosa has to speak like a valley girl:
I believe RSG's localization lacks this sort of creative writing.
The full voice option, as mentioned, was exclusive to the Japanese version of the game and is only available as a preorder bonus (or with the anniversary box). It does what it says; when turned on, all text in the game's cutscenes is voiced by the characters/narrator. When installed, it appeared as a menu option in the sound settings menu and had to be turned on.
Please leave accents out of text, they make the localizations of Dragon Quest games look ridiculously stupid. Accents belong only with voices, our minds subconciously imagine the voices for the characters we are reading anyways.

my favorite post in the thread. I just wish it had a better soundtrack (that's coming from someone who's favorite shmup is progear).
Progear and Ketsui have been on my radar for ages, I really want to spend a good deal of time with both at some point.
I would give a testicle for one of them to be the next game on Steam.
And as far as wishing your favorite game had a better soundtrack? Right there with you..
the difficulty curve in progear is so much like akai katana that once you learn the scoring system the game is such a blast to play. imo it's worth sinking time into if you really like bullet herding & cancelling since progear does it extremely well.
I really don't think the game would sell that well outside of cave/cps2 enthusiasts who don't own the pcb.

The joke got too old for today.
We need to replace them with guys between the cute and manly spectrum and have them engaging in a sexually ambiguous relationship, just like the majority of works made to please the fujos.
Fujos and Fundas made people spite anime, thank you very much.
Regarding the "yuck" factor discussion - would anyone actually want to censor the game itself, though? This is just my intuition, but I feel like more players would be more angry if we censored the game than if we just left it as-is, though.
Blackbird: Personally I don't really care, but there is a loud minority out there that decries censorship so I wouldn't be surprised to see them say something. How many of those people would've bought the game in the first place, though, is debatable.
Also I just had a question: how much of a factor was Mushi's and Deathsmile's multiple difficulty settings in choosing those as the first 2 games to be ported to Steam? I ask because when I think about it a lot of CAVE's big names either only have 1 Arcade difficulty (basically anything pre-Mushihimesama) or slapped on a poorly-balanced Novice mode that doesn't teach new players anything.

Nah, leave it alone - most of the game is innocuous sprites and explosions, compared to some of the other stuff on Steam it's barely worth noting. About the most I'd consider is an ability to turn the story segments off (was that in the 360 version already?) to speed things up.

please no..
even if it's something I don't agree with (which is rare if ever and definitely not in the case of deathsmiles), I'd rather play/see something the way the developer intended.

Agree with both parts of this. The content really isn't so bad, and if people are going to call you a lolicon for playing Deathsmiles they probably decided that from the cover; no working around that without changing the entire theme of the game.
NTSC-J:You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too. 1CCs | Twitch | YouTube
You could skip the endings at the cost of not getting the achievement for it if you didn't have it, but for the few story scenes, you couldn't skip them. Don't think you could speed them up much if at all either.
And definitely don't censor. I happen to be anticensorship too. Not that it's ever actually stopped me from buying something I was interested in. The Gundemonium games on steam had it optional though(Default was the original, and you had to change it if you wanted the censored stuff that was the only option on the PSN release)
Seriously guys, can we stop shitposting and get back on topic, seriously, "BulletMagnet" warned us anyways. And besides all that "stuff", sooner or later, we're gonna end up on uneven territory once "Caladrius Blaze" comes to PC (and PS4), and we won't be sure if the PC release will keep the ero imagery or modify it like the English X360 release. And that's something to write home about, lol. (But it isn't Shmups forum without always debated arguments that go nowhere. >.>)
OTT - Yeah, sounds to seem the Voice Pack, OST, and all that stuff coming into the steam release. Though anything additional as we already mentioned would be a nice consideration. If and hoping CAVE does add them, with the help on Degica, of course. X3
@Blackbird
Well, people complain on censorship, and people don't like it when things are changed overseas, yes, for companies, its for obvious reasons, but I really don't vouch for it, cause I wouldn't care less what gets changed from here to there. And besides, its best to leave some stuff as is though, or probably an option to change it. But its really not much an issue anyways, since the only imagery like that is within the game's endings for 2 characters (Casper and Follett's "stay" endings for example) on specific decisions which are entirely skippable, so there's no point to it. Nothing else on the rest of the game has any imagery like that, so...yeah.
Also, yeah, I noticed people already mentioned it, but yeah, the (text) accents has got to go. And hoping it gets a faithful localization.
