I haven't been on top of this stuff lately. I have the first release PS3 which has the ps2 hardware to play all the u.s. ps2 games. I would like to retire my ps2 and swap magic disc method. Is there a mod-chip I can put in to the PS3 so I can play my JP ps2 games? I don't need PAL capable but that would be nice. I remember looking at this stuff years ago and seeing ones that dont require soldering. Just wondering what the latest and greatest chip to get if this is possible. I have never done a mod-chip before, can system updates screw things up after you install one?
On a side note; If this is possible and already have it opened up to install the chip, is there any sort of network card upgrade you can do to support N wireless?
Original "Phat" PS3- Mod chip it to play ps2 imports?

Wifi: Not without software support from the PS3. That said, you can simply use a wireless bridge to achieve the same thing. Stick an 802.11n (or better yet, 802.11ac) wireless bridge behind your home theatre setup, and connect all the devices to it via ethernet. These work on any device with ethernet, including the PS2, GameCube, Dreamcast, PS3, XB360, etc.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely try that. 6.0mbps download isn't cutting it for me when I achieve 50-60mbps on basically every other device I own.
Anyone have advice on the mod-chip?
