Dial911 - 485,238,000 - Stage 3 - EEE - 51

An improvement in score but I stepped back a stage. Got cocky and died 3 times on the stage 3 boss :x WTF!
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

I always wind up screwing up something stupid and losing a life, like rushing in to counter slash the first stage tank bosses wide spray after you kill the side guns and running smack into one of those huge round bullets. Looks like I'm going to be dropping out of the running til I get a new copy of this game, since for some reason, it now causes my PS2 to make a weird noise and the game refuses to load... constantly brings me back to the memory card/disc screen whenever I try to load it. Fucking bastard... and I was really enjoying this game too...

I just realized that you can slice those centipede fuckers in stage 4 for massive multipliers. I got 60 when 3 were on the screen and my score sky rocketed! Great run maybe I'll do one more.

Another improvement; but I missed the centipede multiplier in stage 4 which would have surely brought my score into the mid 750's :x

Oh ya Acid King; my stage 1 scores are usually in the upper 280,000,000's

Nice. I peaked at 311-something, and never replicated it. Unfortunately, my copy is fucked for now so I have to wait until I get a new copy before I can take a fresh look at the other path.

I really like the flexibility of the scoring system, and ease of experimentation with it. I'm really itching to get back at it.

Dial911 - 984,420,000 - Stage 4 - EEE - 63

I took a little hiatus from the game when the boards crashed and picked it up again yesterday.

Almost beat the stage 4 boss, even had a couple bombs in reserve but was overtaken quickly. :( I am so damn close to the 1CC now.

Good to see you got another copy of the game Acid King. When and where do you get your maximum multiplier?

Generally, it's at the spot with the 3 centipedes on the fourth stage, hitting the first one as it is about to leave the screen. I'm pretty much shit at the fourth stage though and I usually wind up losing it pretty fast when I attempt to slash bullets and wind up hitting an enemy. Makes me wish this game had a practice mode.

You are so fucking right. Stages 1-3 are a cakewalk for me, then I hit stage 4 and I start having problems. Practice mode + a few runs of Stage 4 = 1CC'ed this game already.

I know what you mean. Every time I get to the stage it's almost like I'm seeing it the first time. I have a general idea of whats coming but I have no real path planned out. The only good thing about it is that it makes you play the first stages over and over again, so you can try new things.

My high is 318,300,000 on the LV1 easy path, which I just got an hour ago. I seem to usually get 307,XXX,XXX~315,XXX,XXX. But I've only played the Easy path a few times (just switched to it today after only playing the hard path), so I should be able to improve on this. 32X,XXX,XXX is definitely within reach.

I'll post an overall score once I get LV4 worked out.

Yeah, I hit 315 or 316 a few days ago. It's definietly possible, since I've gotten slightly higher multipliers than I got in that run.

Damn I wish I was better at shmups. Probably played 40 credits...can't get past level 2 :P High Score is 274,193,000 - 2 - EE - 51

Does anyone know exactly what all the stuff in the end-of-level screen means? I know most of it, but I am unsure what the numbers above the bonus score mean. Also, what is the bonus score based on?

Thanks!

I just hit 319,938,000 on LV1 Easy. Man, just a few points from 320 mil. :x

Anyway I might as well throw up an overall score:

TWE - 873,958,000 - Stage 4 - EHH - 62

Lost my last life on the LV4 midboss. I got my high multiplier (62) on Stage 2 by the way (I screwed up the Stage 4 worms and only got 58 there).

Well, we'll see. :D I just did another run and got to the Stage 4 boss with 2 lives left but blew it. I'm just trying to 1Cc the darn thing atm. It's fairly manageable up until the final bosses, but then it gets crazy.

My average level scores in case you're interested:
LV1: 310 mil (EASY path) - 55 max mult.
LV2: 250 mil (HARD path) - 60-62 max mult.
LV3: 150mil (HARD path) - 40 max mult.
LV4: 400+mil (so far, but I haven't finished it yet!) - 66-71 max mult.

PS-nice job on 1CCing this, it's no small feat!

My copy stopped working again. I don't know what the fuck it is. My PS2 plays Rez, DOJ, Espgaluda, Gradius, V, shinobi, etc all fine... but near mint copies of Homura and Bujingai don't work? I hope sony burns in hell!

I took another break from the game and plan on returning to it tomorrow for the 1CC. twe those are some impressive scores, where the hell do you hit a 71 max multiplier.

I've tried taking the hard paths but for some reason I score higher when I go down the easier routes.
What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.

I've gotten a 74 multiplier a few times since then actually, and I'm sure you can get more than this (I really wouldn't be surprised if you can do 100+ multipliers). You can get this in Stage 4.

LV1 EASY is much better for scoring, but LV2 and LV3 HARD paths are better for scoring than their easy counterparts (my best LV2 HARD is about 280 mil, while my best LV3 HARD is about 170 mil iirc).

BTW I can get 320 mil pretty consistently on LV1 EASY now. My best is
322,881,000. :D [EDIT: 324,587,000] [EDIT#2: 326,339,000] [EDIT#3: 328,135,000]

Anyway I got a slightly higher score today, but I'll reserve posting a new score until I beat Kiken's.

In the meanwhile, i scrub around:

Randorama - 481,134,000 - EHH - 55

I need to put the pieces together, and given the lack of time, it won't be quick. I'm finally warming to the game, which is good though

Glad to see you've seen the light Rando. This is easily the most overlooked recent shmup. More people should give this a try.
BTW what stage are you reaching on these runs? 3? 4? 5??

Ehhhh

stage 4, apologies to Ghegs as well :?

I'm really dissecting the stages, the balance of the slash combos and reflections is really well-thought.I find the game to be a step-ahead, in terms of level design, than Psyvariar 2 (which had good but too short stages). Another case of solid and well balanced shmup, albeit the OST is not particularly inspiring (which is a shame, Psyvariars were ace).

That last score was made with a rather brilliant death in the first section with the reptile demons, out of sheer panic..."omg now what am i supposed to do?!"

Ah well, practice will help
