I've got to go with O.V.U.M's vocals in Gradius Gaiden.

"How did you come this far?"

"Don't think you've won! HA HA HA HA HA HA!"

"I hope you can entertain me."

"Did you think you could beat me with THAT?! Loser!"

"You die here!"

"No way!"

"That doesn't hurt."

The best part is that some of them are heard even BEFORE the final fight, so it's like he's watching you the entire time. I just wish the fight were as awesome as the music and voice and broke Gradius tradition for once.

Oh good lord. That beats everything else by a mile!

I can't imagine any context where that would be taken seriously.

The voiceover from Battle Garegga comes to mind, which always sounded to me like 'strowth! power up!'

At first I was like "wtf is this muffled crap?". But then it really grew on me. Like the guy from DOJ too.

I'm really liking Image Fight II's announcer. She sounds so fucking done with your silly shooting game.

"Ground missile... "

(OH SHIT, IT'S A BOSS!) "Enemy in sight... :| "

I kind of like the shitty voice samples in Thunder Force IV. "hahntah!" "kroaw!"
Also just funny how the voice samples got less clear with each sequel.

I can't open Flash stuff on my machine, which is no bad thing
I'm cautiously guessing... Thunder Dragon 2?

To be fair I can't understand more than half what the guy is saying.

'Goddamn you, I can survive you' - whenever you die
'YEEHURR!!' - whenever you kill a medium sized enemy

The soft mixing on the audio drivers were very poor for the samples - yes, the MD TF games need much better audio drivers and it would be some work worth undertaking too.

The actual instruments being used are fantastic! Just not the voice sample, so the driver was at least good for something.

Yes, that is correct - hence why I stated sample. The music is absolutely amazing and one of my favourite MD songs is Metal Squad which rocks!

Ah so that's what the TD2 guy was saying, I couldn't understand shit in the game with the sound effects on top. Man, I wish that DonPachi one existed back when I was raiding in World of Warcraft and Vent binds were a thing. I would have annoyed the hell out of my guild.

I have a soft spot for Gunbird 2's various "POWAAH HUPP!" voices, but my fave ever is probably the "COMPRETE" sound from the end of Ibara (which obviously I've only ever heard in videos, being a scrub).

The commentators in Oshaberi Parodius.

I like the weapon announcer in Super Aleste (the PAL voice is better than the JPN version - may it's the same in US-NTSC?)

"OK" in Gigawing

"Exercise extreme caution" in Sega's Astro Blaster

You gotta love a talking boss! Like Super Aleste's western st2:

intro: "Gimme a break!" dead: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

My favourite's probably Zero Rei (X68000)'s first. Now that's cyber violence against women and girls.

"YOU BIIITCH!"

You shall be crushed! Dude knows why he's coming from behind, probably going to murder everyone on the first blind attempt.

I have a decidedly soft spot for voice samples in shmups for some reason, the cheesier the better! I absolutely adore Vapor Trail's (MD) tin-can-voiced commentator who's barely understandable at times and unexpectedly epic at others (that "Go for the kill!" when Bloody Road reaches its climax on the final boss!). The guy flying the ship seems to be a loveable dummy, too, he enthusiastically yells "Roger!" into the com like he's Goofy himself.

My favourite has to be the overly energetic announcer from Salamander 2, though. "Pound the entrails and SHOOT Abaddon!" Gradius II's counterpart on the other hand has to be one of the most condescending pricks in any shmup ("You NEED some practice!"), just as great in his own wicked ways.

Vapor Trail's announcer makes every credit feel like Popeye the Sailor Man is your commanding officer. I'd love to edit him into various other games. ^__^

"GO FO THA KIW" ("LAGER") "NICE JARB"

I do like how Gradius II's announcer pipes up with a sheepish "Look out behind you!" for the new PC Engine boss - how uncharacteristically useful of him! I almost wonder if that was an unused sample from the PCB... sounds uncannily similar to the rest of his lines.

Like many others here, I am pretty fond of the Donpachi announncer. It's just so... bizarre.

I also like the announcers in Gradius Gaiden.
