My plan was to get a JAP XBOX1. And play my JAP owned 360 discs on it. Was wondering were to see the list for the JAP xbox1 and what 360 disc games work on it, not the U.S. console. Too early to tell?
It's been confirmed that Xbox One is region free, including the backwards compatible 360 catalog. Any region version of any 360 game will play on any Xbox One as long as it's on the BC list.

For instance, if you have a Japanese or European version of a Gears of War game, you can play any of them on a US Xbox One. This has been tested and confirmed working with multiple games so far.

As far as more shmups being added to these lists, we'll just have to wait and see, they're adding at least a dozen new titles each month, with some months set to have between 50-100 new titles.
yyr wrote: If past backwards compatibility features are any indication (PS2, PS3, etc.), this plan might not work. In the event that the X1 BC feature works the same way, the 360 games will be subject to the same region lock restrictions regardless of what console you run it on, and the X1 being region-free will only apply to X1 games.
As I just said, this has been proven incorrect.

I just pre-ordered my copy and couldn't be more excited for this. It looks like Raiden may finally be overcoming the relative slump it hit with 3 and 4, and doing something actually innovative for the genre with lots of features and lots of variety in gameplay.

That is to say, you think it's going to have many of the exact anti-game or anti-competitive features that's already doomed the rest of gaming, and you're overjoyed. I can only pray that doesn't happen.

Yes, Raiden III and IV are such worthless games, aren't they? It's the same game I played back in 1990, except it looks worse! Knowing that people continue to reject entire games simply because of superfluous non-game fluff sickens me to the core.

Moss seemed like such a worthless company, but now Raiden V is going to make that all better! Absolutely nothing of what we have been shown is in any way innovative. The one thing that even puts on a likeness is the one thing that might bring this entire game crashing down.

Again, I actually like Moss, and I'm interested in the game. It openly tells us that it's going to do a lot of things objectively wrong, and it scares us by threatening to plunge one of the last genres we have into a real dark age, but I'm still interested in what turns out right.

Man, this thread really is just a giant salt mine. The amount of unnecessary aggression in here is off the charts. These "console wars" make some people into huge babies more than usual. The shmup curmudgeons are out in full force.

Anti-game? What the fuck are you even talking about? Not everyone enjoys playing games for the same reasons, and some people don't like the genre just because of number porn and competitive scoring. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to enjoy a certain type of game, it's just your personal preference.

Raiden was my first shmup I got really into back in 1992 and I still enjoy the series and would like to see it produce some more games that are a little closer to the first two in that feeling of freshness and relative innovation they games brought to the genre, and I feel like this game is showing some promise that it may do that, given the information about the different types of gameplay, real-time worldwide stat tracking features and in-game community features, true branching stages (not common in vertical shmups) and plenty of other things we haven't even seen yet, if the website is anything to go by.

I never said anything about 3 and 4 being worthless, as I played the hell out of both, they just weren't as fresh or enjoyable as 1, 2, or the Fighters series.

Raiden and Raiden II are innovative? In what way? They're literally Kyuukyoku Tiger clones.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I resent it coming out exclusively for the Xbone, since that means I will never be able to play it.

Maybe it ten years or so, when they achieved to emulate the thing.

Fixed that for you.

Even if something is not for sale in your country of residence, just about anything can be imported anywhere.

Seriously though, why do salty people keep bringing this back to console wars? This topic should be about the game itself. We KNOW that the XB1 is selling like shit in Japan, and we know that the PS4 is outselling it worldwide. Whether you love, hate or have no opinion regarding the XB1, those are facts and we're all aware of them. Those topics have already been discussed and are irrelevant to the topic of the game itself. I have plenty of opinions when it comes to XB1 vs. PS4, but I will not post them here because they are irrelevant as well. If you have nothing to add to the discussion, then please add nothing, thank you.

That is really interesting news. I'm happy about it, but unhappy at the same time...if publishers are aware that their games will become region-free when becoming backwards compatible, I worry that they will choose not to make their games BC at all. Time will tell...

First; please don't 'fix' anything for me. Second; relax dude. I'm not interested in starting a PS4 vs XBone flamewar since I own neither system nor do I have interest in purchasing them. Just expressing my disdain for MOSS's choice of system. Deal with it.

In hindsight, I think they perfected the formula more so than they innovated. That's not to say that's a bad thing, as both Raiden games have aged rather gracefully in my opinion, the second one in particular.

That's basically what I was trying to say. Maybe innovative isn't exactly the word, but it did something to push the industry forward and set a good example. It widened the knowledge that shmups existed (and how good shmups good be) to many people outside of Japan, since it was the first truly big hit in American arcades of the genre.

Not to get off topic but, I just found out that the 3DS which is region locked does this. I have been playing Ketsui DS on my NA 3DS.

Anyway I can not wait to get this. My X1 needs a shmup. Glad It is on this system but would rather it be multi so everyone can play!

Any guesses as to when the next trailer will be revealed by MOSS? It's been a month since the last one. The game releases next month and they still have to reveal the characters and campaigns, which I assume will be split over an Asian theater, an American theater, and a European theater of war.

I guess you think the same as i think when it comes about games like the Gears of War or the Halo series, First and Third Person Shooter can be other shmup genres. It's like the classic "Is Run-N'-Gun a shmup genre?" debate, If Run-N'-Gun made its way to shmups, then the other two genres can do the same.

Umm....yeah. Anyway.

Let me rephrase: Are there any other shoot'em ups in the vein of "Gradius" or "Raiden" coming to the XOne, apart from "Raiden V"?

This should prevent any confusion :)

Supposedly both Qute and Triangle Service are going to be releasing something on the Xbox One.

That's really weird, my 3DS doesn't play the Japanese games that I've tried, but maybe Ketsui is a special case and was programmed to be totally region free. I have flash cards for it anyway, so I can play whatever, but I remember it not playing the 2 or 3 Japanese DS cartridges I tried in it.

Unless your DS game is Dsi-enhanced (such as Pokémon Black and White for instance), you can play any DS game on your 3DS, as (non-DSi) DS carts are region free. I can play various US and JP DS imports on my EU 3DS fine.
It is only the 3DS games that are goddamn region locked are require workarounds/hacks/etc.
