Wii Scart cable - inverted colors?? blues are pink, etc

Post by aoiddr »

I took an NTSC Wii and used AnyRegionChanger to install the Europe system menu. When I hook up a scart cable (one of those unofficial ones) to Viletim's Scart2Jamma adapter, the picture on my arcade monitor is just GREEN. I've opened up the scart cable end and it looks to be fine. Any ideas on what the problem or something to try?

I also have a Composite Video Cable to Scart Adapter, but all I get is audio. No picture displays on my monitor at all with that.

Your Wii is still in NTSC mode. RGB output only works in PAL mode.

Okay, I used AnyRegionChanger and swapped it to PAL.

The screen is no longer solid green, but the colors are inverted from what they should be... the blue's are now pink. Greens are blue... etc.

Should I just unsolder the scart's RGB pins and swap them around?

The scart cable I have is this one:

Okay, I solved the problem. The cheap Wii Scart cable had the R/G/B wires soldered incorrectly. I had to just play around by unsoldering/resoldering them until I got the right combination.

Yep, obvious evidence of a cheaply made scart cable. I bought one exactly the same. I have no idea why these cables are wired like this, but they need to be rewired for them to work properly.
Don't expect NTSC games to play in RGB though. The Wii forces S-video output when it detects an NTSC signal. Unless you can force NTSC games to output in PAL60, then you'll have to use a component cable, or an s-video cable.

I'm mainly only using the pal-ied Wii so I can play the Wii's Dance Dance Revolution games on my arcade machine, and all the NTSC discs (USA and JP) that I've ripped and played so far have worked with USB Loader through the scart cable and displayed on my arcade monitor via Viletim's Scart to Jamma adapter. Granted, I haven't tried actually playing a physical disc...but I used clean rip to make iso's of them all so I wouldn't have to dig them out.
