Japanese/Doujin Linux developers?

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

Anyone know if there are many Japanese/Doujin Linux game developers?

Can anyone give me insight into cultural attitudes towards it there?

Kenta Cho's games have been ported but I believe they are the only Japanese shmups I've seen.
Oh and there is Kobo Deluxe which is a gem.

Maybe there are sites and download links for doujin games but I can only read English.
Hopefully they will start to realize it exists as more doujin games are released on Steam's service.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

other than Kenta Cho, nonexistent. this blog post sums up the situation nicely

iirc i remember reading the anti sharing mentality being so strong in Japan that it is (or at least was) not unheard of for devs to be openly hostile towards having to share their source code with other teams/devs within their own company

They are non-existent, unfortunately. I'd love to see Linux support from doujin game developers. ASTRO PORT's games on Steam do appear to be compatible with Linux, but I think that was added by Nyu Media, who localized the games, rather than by the circle itself. Besides those already mentioned, the only other circle I can think of at the moment that expressed an interest in Linux is FEGS, but support for it in their only game so far was scrapped before it was released: http://fegs.sakura.ne.jp/products/versh/

Thanks for the information guys.

Sorry to hear it has kind of cultural underpinnings.
That is more of a problem than them simply not having much exposure to it I suppose.
