Help in understand color drives and color cut settings

Post by Taiyaki »

The short of it is, could someone explain to me the differences between the settings that affect reds. I have R-DRV (I believe Red Drive), R-CUT and R-ON (this is a 1 or a 0 and just turns the gun off).

I've been trying to calibrate colors especially since when I increase brightness (contrast on today's sets) it gives a red tint in the darker colors (perhaps also in the highlights a little bit. I can offset this by playing with the Red Drive (which is in the 50s) by a few points and the R-CUT settings (which is around 330) by bringing it down to around 310.

I didn't save any settings because I'm not sure what these really do and don't want to mess anything up. Are there side effects to the picture by playing with these a little? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

this should explain everything, on a Sony leave Green Cut/Drive/Gain/Bias alone. You can ignore the stuff about there meter/software, but the graphs should explain how red green blue balance to make white at 6500K. There is a japanese consumer standard of 9300K its slightly bluish, its what most TVs 'neutral' white balance is set around (10500K on Samsungs).

Thanks a bunch. I worked with that (that was way more than I needed). After pushing the blue drive up and red drive down a little the picture now appears near perfect to my eyes. ^^ Greatly appreciate it.
