Ahh, looks like the old R-Type III scoreboard is dead eh?

Anyway, here's my 2-ALL score:

pegboy - 1,379,580 - ALL - Shadow

edit: removed the pic since it was giganitic. Will post the video once it's uploaded.

I've not watched the video in its entirety (yet), but I did look through the second half of the second loop - magnificent work as always! Apparently the US version added a new music track on the mid-boss in the fourth level that is not present in the SFC version (there's also a neat trick against said mid-boss: it is possible to fly right into the ceiling; the upper turret will just run directly through the ship without harming it, thus making it possible to take it out fairly easy. It will not work against the second set of turrets if I recall correctly, but it'll help tremendously on the other two sets). I also was not aware of the incredible strength of the blue Shadow Force laser, that thing just destroys the fourth boss and cuts through those nasty critters in the final level like they're out of thin paper. :o Thank you very much for your video, if I do decide to go for the ALL at some point I'll definitely try out your methods. Do you think it is feasible to recover from a death in the beginning of 2-5/11 and 2-6/12? It seems like an almost hopeless enterprise to me.

Recovery is definitely possible in stage 5 and 6, even in loop 2 assuming you are using the shadow force. I can do it somewhat consistently in stage 5 after devising a strategy using the level 2 beam to take out those green guys. You need a pretty specific path to pull it off though.

Stage 6 is actually much, much harder to recover from IMO, if you die in that first part, it's going to be very hard and I don't think I could do it consistently. Actually dying anywhere other than the boss on stage 6 is going to be a big problem. Those damn bugs have a ton of life on loop 2, it's just ridiculous with anything over than a fully powered up blue shadow laser or the yellow cyclone force weapon is also very good.

Honestly I think stage 6 is pretty much impossible with the round force, it's way too weak to take out those damn bugs and they will quickly overwhelm you. I tested all 3 types using an emulator and save-states to practice some of this stuff, and the round force is just terrible in final stage IMO.

Also it's really too bad but this game can be easily counterstopped in stage 6. I showed a little bit of the point milking on the stage 6 midboss just to demonstrate it. I actually did counterstop the game in an emulator (using a fast forward feature) and it ends at 10,000,000 points. The wierd thing is if you die with this score you instantly get a game over regardless of the number of lives you have left.

Perikles - 1,427,680 - ALL - Shadow

You get another 100,000 points from the final boss, but it's nigh impossible to get a picture of that since you can't pause after getting the points anymore.

Holy cow! That was one of the most grandiose credits I've ever had. Trashed the first loop without any hassle, died a few times on stage 8 out of inadvertency, then again in stage 10 during the encore in the fire maze. But the most amazing thing: I died in the final stage and had to do the first checkpoint with the dinky ship - and managed it after a few tries. I studied a very strict plan with hypers which eventually worked, it's somewhat dependent on the RNG though, if multiple bugs position themselves in a bad overall constellation you're simply screwed. Didn't think I would be able to pull off such a recovery.

Thank you so much for making me aware of the awesome power of the shadow force, pegboy. :) I was stuck in my round force DNA laser ways - I actually practiced the final stages with savestates and could get through them very rarely, but it was impossible for me to get a clean run together. Shadow force is infinitely better, the blue laser makes short work of everything. The fourth boss for example is a nightmare with the round force and a joke when playing with the shadow force.

I think I righteously earned this salute for today 8):
