Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
My father took me to see the 4th movie (one with that imbecile jar jar binx or whatever his name is). Never saw the 5th or 6th one. I grew up watching the original 3 on VHS tapes and I have fond memories of those ones, particularly the second movie. Have to admit I wasn't super stoked about this one at all never kept up with news. My younger sister has since developed a love for the series and has watched all 6 movies religiously for the past few years. She apparently preordered movie tickets for us to see it tomorrow night at one of the cinemas VIP theatres. Not really stoked although I'll keep an open mind.
Best part about the VIP experience though is that seats are reserved so no waiting 3 hours in line with super nerds dressed up as star wars characters and the VIP at this theatre is 19+ for age as they serve beer and liquor in that part of the theatre so no groups of 13 year old loud mouths with their cell phones on during the show. Probably some loud drunk people though cheering endlessly at the beginning of the movie.
Starts at 10:35PM so after previews, 2+ hour movie and a 45 minute drive home I'll be in bed by 2am and have to be on the site for work at 7am friday morning... so that's awesome.

Ironically everyone at my local IMAX is a VIP. They recommend getting there 30-45 minutes early. The good seats were all sold out Thursday & Friday so I went w/ Saturday night. I will stay off the internet after tomorrow.Strikers1945guy wrote: Best part about the VIP experience though is that seats are reserved so no waiting 3 hours in line

I also liked it, but with some reservations. I want to see it again in 2D, and I think knowing what happens might make it more enjoyable. Don't want to post spoilers here yet. Much to discuss!

Jesus, the wait is killing me. Dan that's ominous from you, you're a diehard fan.

I couldn't get decent seats until Saturday night at 10PM. I saw Interstellar on the far left side in the front and it killed my neck.Skykid wrote:Jesus, the wait is killing me. Dan that's ominous from you, you're a diehard fan.

I think the acting and direction was decent, hopefully, this will lower Skykid's expectations enough so he can actually enjoy it.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
I'm stupidly pumped for this film. I'm glad the prequels were just prequels and don't muck w/ the flow of what I've enjoyed watching over and over through the years. This will finally continue what I saw in the theater as a kid (my aunt took me to see Empire, but I was so young I didn't remember much. Jedi was the full experience, though).
My wife and I got tickets for an early Saturday showing. I wasn't keen to the idea of going opening night and having it ruined by the hooting and hollering of crazed fans who haven't slept for 3 days straight. I think some people actually find that as part of an exciting/memorable experience, but I'd just like to just enjoy it for what it is.
For those of you looking for some non-spoiler hype material to pacify you, I found the Star Wars: The Force Awakens World Premiere Red Carpet event a pretty enjoyable watch.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
It's a given with two tidbits regarding this newfangled SW Ep. VII: TFA sequel:
Yes, J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay of SW Ep. VII: TFA (but it wasn't done in time for a proper May of 2015 theatrical release date and later pushed back to a more respectable December 2015 date instead. It's not too much of a coincidence that five years earlier, Disney released Tron: Legacy on December 18, 2010 (which fell on a Friday as well) and thus giving this new SW film that same release date (to the exact day) five years down the road -- it's still quite something to behold/marvel at.
The SW Ep. VII: TFA soundtrack by John Williams goes on sale on 12/18/2015 as well.

It's Star Wars.
Loved every moment of it. Well, except one...
I have a new hope for this franchise.

Well I'll just have to make my exit from this thread. China's not getting the movie until their Christmas equivalent, Chinese New Year, which is 29th January. How the hell I'm supposed to go a month avoiding spoilers I don't know, but I can't expect you guys to not talk about it until then, so go nuts!

Seen the film and yes, it is star wars without a doubt and not some kind of shitty experiment like episodes 1 through 3 were.
I got a few complaints about some cheesy acting, the extreme youthness of the higer rank officers of this new "Order" and that Kylo Ren was a real failure for me as a bad guy

Spoiler
Also I've found out the truth about Rei even if it hasn't been told in this episode but it is so obvious that Oh my!!! Well I guess I'm not the only one to have discovered it, am I??
Don't wanna ruin the full trilogy to someone really stupid to see the spoiler without watching the film

Following Skykid out. I have to dodge a few mother fuckers at work all day tomorrow... then hopefully spend Saturday getting my balls jostled before we head to the theater.

Was alright. Cheesy acting, the whole "look, LOOK! it's all the original cast!" moments really weren't needed at all. Somehow through all the space wars no one ages, the ending was kinda dumb (I get leaving it open). I have a few more complaints but until we can actually talk about it I dont want to ruin it for some people. Some idiot infront of me in the theater would wave his toy light saber any time one came out in the movie. We get it, you're 40 years old and dress up for movies thats your decision, don't ruin the experience for everyone else. Also some lady behind me actually started crying. This isn't some movie with crazy good acting requiring any sort of feels or emotional toil, it's star wars for christs sake.

I would be in support of some random Disney character cameo. Mickey in a dark corner with a hood over his head, but the ears are a dead giveaway. They own this thing now.pestro87 wrote:Just got home from the cinema. Loved it. I have a few minor complaints but overall it was fantastic. 11/10

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: Cast Unveiled...slated for 12/18/
Yep, finally watched SW Ep. 7 in DFX (comparable to an Imax-sized screen setup) with upgraded 3D & Dolby Atmos surround sound treatment for the full maximum punch/effect today, 12/18/2015. There were two key scenes that left me crying (and emotionally drained) but it does move the story along in spades. I've waited over 32 & 1/2 years to see this newfangled SW sequel after watching the first showing of RoTJ (back in May of 1983 -- you couldn't get advanced tickets back in those days and had get in line to see it for the very first showing makes it all the more remarkable/memorable, indeed). I have to say that proper kudos/nod towards to ILM for delivering the ol' aging & graceful Millennium Falcon some new twists and spins (thrilling action scenes) -- I didn't know that "she's still got it where it counts" (considering that she's still the fastest ship in the galaxy, albeit with the much desired hyperdrive).
During the ending credits, one location used for the winter scenes shot on location in Iceland.
We'll definitely have to wait another two years to see SW Ep. 8 to see what happens next.
I wouldn't be surprised if this new SW film ends up being nominated in several catagories for the upcoming 2016 Academy Awards show down the road.
Expect a 3D Blu-ray release of SW Ep. 7 in the nearby future, it's a given.
To have scored advanced tickets to go see SW Ep. 7, you would've had to bought them when they first went on sale in the USA back in October 13 through the 15, 2015 was your best bet (especially for the Thursday night preview showings, 12/17/2015). If you snoozed, it was your loss -- as reserved seats were literally being scooped up as the seconds ticked off during those three particular days of being offered for sale.
When I stop to ponder about Kylo Ren's age, I'm not sure how old he is (given that the Jedi twins of Luke and Leia are aged 53 respectively) in this latest SW flick.
