Scart Cable Question--
I want to run my Original Xbox through Viletim's Scart2Jamma. Do I need to get an Xbox RGB Scart cable with "Composite Video + Sync" or "CSYNC (built in video sync separator)"?

SourceAll pre made SCART cables will used composite video for sync information. If for some reason you would like to connect a device which does not have composite video available (such as an Amiga or other microcomputer) you may want to construct a non-standard cable with a TTL composite sync signal in place of the composite video. There are a set of jumpers located next to the SCART socket labeled TTL and 75.

Okay, so just plain vanilla Composite Video + Sync cords for the major consoles will do. Thanks.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
My housemate's parents bought him a new TV for his birthday. Its a Panasonic TX48C300B. I'll admit its not the best option price wise but its free and we can't really complain. The picture quality in general is lame but I haven't played with the settings yet, doing that tonight. There was one thing that puzzled me though. When the TV was set to Full Range HDMI it was adding something like a fog over the whole picture.. It happened on a Windows 10 PC and on the PS4 too. I hope its something like Dynamic Contrast that needs switching off. I also noticed a lot of colour banding and crushed blacks on some low-res videos we watched but I'm hoping I can iron those out with changing the picture settings. Is there like a general guide on how to tune the picture of modern TVs ? Before this Panasonic we were with Samsung 2333HD so no one is expecting ground breaking results. Just decent picture. Admittedly I had similar issues with that Samsung but there was plenty of settings on the internet for it and finding the perfect balance was easy.
P.S. Anyone tried to tate a 48" screen with a wall bracket ?

Finally gonna need moar space on my 360 (Asian S model), considering a 320GB or 500GB.
Were there ever any 'brand' preferences or bad quality warnings among the various generic/3rd party available ?
Or are they all the same ?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
So like many of you know, the ps1's RGB signal is very, very bright. a good deal brighter than other consoles', actually.
When i game on my RGB monitor, all of my consoles look great, but when I switch to my ps1, picture is way too bright
My problem is this : I don't want to have to ajust brightness and contrast on my monitor each time I play on the ps1, because right now brightness and contrast are dialed in just right and I'm not gonna be able to dial it back the same way after a change (the menu's interface just shows a solid bar that expands when you increase the value, so there's no reference).
This is why I want to go the way of getting the ps1's signal on the same level as the other consoles, so that I don't have to adjust settings on my monitor ever.
I would like input about the different ways of achieving this. knowing what each involves :
-SCART cable modification? (what needs to be done on the cable and what parts to add)
-ps1 modification? (same as above)
-external device? (wich device do you recommend? would something like an Extron RGB 120 work fine in that application?)

Possibly adding a resistor to the R G and B signals inside the scart cable will darken the image. Not sure on what value resistor to use thoFinalBaton wrote:So like many of you know, the ps1's RGB signal is very, very bright. a good deal brighter than other consoles', actually.

I've got a Truxton PCB and a couple of the resistor arrays are in bad nick. Are they all the same? The only thing I can see printed on them is 4728IAM. What is a replacement?

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Is it me or the ps1 and Genesis output a raster that is closer in ration to 5:4 than 4:3?
My monitor has a 5:4 ratio, and I swear, the raster fits almost perfectly on the screen.

Anyone with a ECHDCAP knows if it records in 1080p 60Hz? I'm suspecting it doesn't and only records at a max of 30Hz.

PEXHDCAP ? 720p60, 1080i60. 1080p with just 30 frames.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Hi guys can anyone help me with a capture issue? I am outputting from my BVM (bnc to RGB Scart) into an upscaler and then into an Elgato HD. My SNES and Sega Saturn work great. However my RGB NES and my Mega Drive don't work. Can someone help me troubleshoot this please? Even if I use the composite out on my scart switch I only get a black and white image. So confused!

That's the StarTech Capture Card, aka rebranded micomsoft SC-500N1. That being said, the one I'm referring to is the StarTech ExpressCard HDMI Video Capture CardFudoh wrote:PEXHDCAP ? 720p60, 1080i60. 1080p with just 30 frames.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'm looking at some Extron VGA matrices (8-input 2-output) and I see in the manual/on the website it mentions "Dual buffered video outputs". Is this something to be worried about lag-wise or is the sync signal just buffered?
The manual also mentions a propagation delay in the nanoseconds so I don't think I have anything to worry about, but I want to make sure since I've never purchased a matrix switch before.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
nothing to worry about. There's no additional lag. You will need clean sync though on your sources.

Makes sense, thanks Fudoh. It is nice that they apparently support RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB, and YPbPr all over the same D-Sub 15 inputs. Nice and cheap these days too.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
I'm going to buy a PVM 2930QM, but I'm not sure what kind of cable I need. Is a RGB SCART -> BNC enough or do I need one with sync cleaner circuit built in? Any recommendation to buy from?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
RGB SCART should be carrying RGB & C-Sync, so I don't think there's no additional tinkering you need to do to it though don't quote me on that because I never dealt with SCART before.

I'm pretty sure that the 2930 requires a stripper. The 2950QM does.

SCART carries whatever kind of sync you send it, with the exception of a split H/V sync linebeatsgo wrote:RGB SCART should be carrying RGB & C-Sync, so I don't think there's no additional tinkering you need to do to it though don't quote me on that because I never dealt with SCART before.

Err yeah, it's a 2950QM. So I need the sync cleaner circuit built in, correct?Fudoh wrote:I'm pretty sure that the 2930 requires a stripper. The 2950QM does.

Any of you has used or have experience with this monitor?
Dell UltraSharp 2007FP
i have opportunity to get one at a low price , its has IPS panel (verified serial number) and stand can be rotated to TATE , i think this would be great for a tabletop arcade project.

Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
The IPS version of that monitor had rather low input lag, IIRC, so it wouldn't be too bad. I don't think it's worth any more than $50-75 USD though.

Hi - question about the SNES (UK PAL 1-chip with superCIC) - does anyone know of a mod that can make the right voltage to go to the scart pins to get the TV to automatically select 4:3?
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
Tim created a voltage pump circuit for that very purpose, and is included in two different items he sells:andykara2003 wrote:Hi - question about the SNES (UK PAL 1-chip with superCIC) - does anyone know of a mod that can make the right voltage to go to the scart pins to get the TV to automatically select 4:3?

Thanks for that - I'll get in touch with him & see how to install it in the SNES.

I can't speak from personal experience, and I'm no good at shmups. The specs say 16ms pixel response time, which is rather high, but contemporary reports indicate it may have been lower, and I can't find anybody complaining about ghosting.
Re: Questions that do not deserve a thread
what's the easiest way to connect the ultra hdmi n64 mod to a sony bvm-d20f1u? I was thinking of using an hd fury to convert to component but I don't think they support 640x480 and I don't know if the no-name HDMI to SDI converters are good.
