Do You Still Want To Believe or RU Horny for the X-Files?

Post by GaijinPunch »

The Official Trailer doesn't seem cut so well. This promo for what looks like a monster of the week episode seems more like it.

Discuss.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

When does Arrested Development cum back? I would Google it but I'm going to pretend it's the old days and every bit of info isn't at my finger tips.

I loved the X-Files as a teenager. I watched all of it up series 7 but it became really boring after series 5 I think it was when the big story arc was resolved. I do not know if it got any better after that.

I watch it from time to time with a mate of mine and we love it still.

It was pretty exciting watching it on a Tuesday night back in England and you had no idea what the show would be about of if some clue would be revealed.

I also liked the Twilight-Zone, The Outer-Limits and The Invaders too and V: the mini series - actually, I love SciFi shows :)

A show with a heavy emphasis on government conspiracy theories probably not as fun nowadays - just a reminder of all of the... stuff floating around the net.

And time is the cruelest demon. Poor Scully.

Bruce Campbell once said "tv shows age like fish". As a kid X-files was kind of spooky. As an adult it's just pretty funny.

Mulder and Scully bumbling around and bumping into crazy (but harmless) weirdos with interesting theories on the nature of reality.

Got'cha mate, I googled the shit out of wikipedia for ya.

Production begins January, premiere "four months after that". Project somewhere between April and summer.

Never got into X-Files, even as a kind I thought some stuff was too far fetched and silly, but essentially what bothered me is that the central plot was too long to unravel and a real mess, like the authors never had a clear idea of it.

AD resuming though, is a different thing entirely, it makes me horny yes. :P

Some of the mystique of the era has definitely passed, it's not as easy to buy into it the same way as when you were a kid. But the superb writing and directing of the show still holds up after all these years. It's a lot of fun.

I agree with all of this, I'm wondering how relatable it will be in the current climate. They mentioned something about terrorism in the trailer, which isn't exactly intriguing as much as it is terrifying.

Also getting old really sucks.

The writing/directing, as Skykid pointed out, was and still is high caliber. While the mythology story did get drawn the fuck out, in it's prime it was super tense. Nothing else on TV like it.

I guess you guys have milfs growing on trees up there in Alaska. As a single 40 year old male, I can assure you she is top of the line in the 40+ crowd. I think she's what, 44 or 45? She's aged very well.

I actually have quite a funny story involving Scully and a girl I dated for a minute. Not drunk enough yet though.

I hate to be the killjoy here, but the Netflix season of Arrested Development was a huge disappointment for me. The whole point of AD was that it was an ensemble piece and asking characters like Maebe to carry an entire episode was doomed from the get-go. I was also really unhappy with the changes they made to Michael and George Sr.

W/Bob & David, on the other hand was a perfect resurrection of Mr. Show with most of the cast, albeit only 4 episodes of it. It's on Netflix. The third episode is a gutbuster!

Super stoked for this. The first time I've been genuinely anticipating a TV series since the X-Files.

My hopes and dreams are:

No appearance or even mention of Dogget and Rayes, and a complete writing off of series 8 and 9 events as if they never occurred. I'm hoping they pick it up from the end of season 7, which was the writer's true finale, and that they actually manage to wrap up those elements of the series mythology properly. That includes reinstatement of Krycek prior to being killed by a slow motion silver bullet in that fucking awful season 9 wrap, and reinstatement of the cigarette smoking man prior to his demise in a hippie cave den by guided missile (if you haven't seen that shit, it happened - don't ever watch it. It blows beyond belief).

Also I never want to see Mulder and Scully actually get it on, that should always remain on the knife edge of possibility.

About to watch E.B.E season one, I'm really tearing through this revisit.

The second movie was pretty much a bad monster of the week episode.

And sorry sky, Muldy and Scully have been getting it on for about 35 years now. They just don't make a big deal out of it. Horse has been out to pasture on that one.

Da, the groundhog day nature of the beast, not being able to gather everyone together, and how they left in not-so great bits they would have cut if it were constrained to TV runtime; not the beast. But come on. "Blindside monster" made it all worth it.

Season 5 can't possibly be any worse, only uphill from here!

It's among the best standalone episodes for sure. I don't like it better than "Humbug" (s2 ep20) or "Jose Chung’s 'From Outer Space'" (s3 ep20), though.

I've recently been watching through the x files from the start. it definitely still holds up. I'm still not getting my hopes up that the new series will be any good though, these things tend to suck more often than not. obviously I hope to be proven wrong though.

Yes, it's absolutely fantastic. Can't say the 'best' - I don't think I have a personal favourite. Just like there are some episodes I really don't care for, there are plenty that I'd put on par with each other for excellence.

We've been doing the same.

It has its moments. Due to us knowing all to well how the big story arc plays out we are missing out those episodes and really just watching the one-offs. It is great.

Why was that series 6 episode 21 one so awesome - I forget but series 3,4,5 was mostly the big story arc as I recall.

That ep is where they end up on hallucinogens and trip out and even the audience is left guessing, it's great.

I got three episodes left of season one. Watched Darkness Falls tonight, which is one of my all time favourites and a superb bottle scenario, and then Tooms 2. Dude's still creepy.

I have just watched it. A bit different.

The one after "Biogenesis" was better I felt.
I have all series up to seven but never saw any after that. Having seen Biogenesis I am trying to find series 7 now :D

Series 7 isn't the best, but it still has some standout episodes. It's also technically the last series and the finale is the real finale - 8 and 9 don't qualify, they're imposters.

I agree, series 7 was 'all over the place'.
To be honest it dropped off after 5 or 6 - I forget when but pretty much after the main story arc concluded.

There was no conclusion to the main story arc. I'm not sure what you're referring to. The events that happened in the feature length final following season 9 are a joke.

Sorry, I have not seen beyond series 7; I had the 'ending' of the main story arc when the men who meet with cancerman all got killed in that hanger when the aliens arrived.

It certainly didn't get very interesting in 6 and 7 so I gave up after 7.

Don't remember 06x21 -- maybe I should revisit. One of my favorite episodes ever was Closure. Always liked Moby's My Weakness. I remember watching it on a cold, winter day in my shitty old apartment in Tokyo.
