DB15 Cables and SNES controllers

Post by mehguy »

SO, I'm currently building a supergun and I'm trying to mod a SNES controller so that it will use the DB15 standard.

Here's my plan:

So above is the SNES controller PCB, I plan to solder and match up each one of the pins from a DB15 port to wherever the SNES button leads lead to. In this case, they lead straight to that black micro chip, right above the Select button. I also might plan to desolder that chip right from the pcb so that soldering will be a little easy. Will this work?

Also, I'm having trouble finding DB15 cables for a reasonable price and shipping cost (in canada at least). Can anyone direct to any websites?

Why not just use an FGW converter to make a generic SNES-to-DB15 adapter cable, so that you can use any SNES controller with DB15? Here's the link:

Or heck, buy a pre-made SNES-to-DB15 adapter like this one:

I don't like the idea of modding perfectly good controllers when adapters are available.

There are lots of cheap DB15 cables on amazon.ca, including some with free shipping. You can just go see what Monoprice's Canadian storefront has. Just go here and search for db15:

I have a 3rd party snes controller thats wired for db15.
I bought it used from some guy who was using it with his Mvs.

Never bothered to look inside it yet. He said it had a custom pcb.

Im using it on my supergun.
