So I have a US PSX (a 1000) but it's terribly noisy on the audio output. Not sure what to do about it. I'm thinking that it might be caused by the stepdown converter and / or power supply.
Not sure how likely that is, but getting a native power supply might be a good idea anyway, but how interchangeable are PSX PSUs?
Also if that isn't helpful, I'm wondering if there are anyone who can do SPDIF mods for PSXs?

Should be just a matter of swapping out the PSU boards. I don't remember the SCPH-1001 having noisy audio so it could very well be your stepdown converter.ZellSF wrote:Not sure how likely that is, but getting a native power supply might be a good idea anyway, but how interchangeable are PSX PSUs?

Are all PSX model PSU boards interchangeable though? If I get a SCPH-500x will it use the same PSU as a SCPH-100x?

I think you'd have to use one from an SCPH-1002 as I don't think later model PSUs will work.

Thanks. Audio problems were power supply related, replaced it with a proper PAL PSU and everything sounds very clean. Extremely clean actually, I was expecting to get rid of some of the noise, but not all of it.

Had to resolder the first two (big) contact points of mine recently, they were loose (20 years or plugging/unplugging lol).
Kept rebooting the machine and making a 'bzzzzt bzzzzt' noise. Now all perfect again, took 5 minutes.
The optical block however is showing its age, cleaning the lens and adding a drop of fresh grease to the mechanism helps for a while but barely.
