Nanao ms8 complete recap necessary?
Having some geometry and timing issues with my nanao ms8 monitor. Completely rolls when cold. Bounces, looses horizontal size. In medium res it even trips off.
I found a guy in LA that services nanao ms8 chassis's. He charges $70 for standard service/repair. I asked him if I should replace all capicitors while he has it. He says he normally just changes the most problematic ones, and that some will never fail. But if I want it will be an extra $30.
I'd appreciate any advice on the best way to proceed.
Thanks in advance.

No brainer if you cannot do it yourself.
At least you are safe for the foreseeable future.
Sourcing a new monitor is more expensive.

You are lucky you have someone local who can do that work. Just pay him to fix it and change all the caps while he's in there

I'm actually in the SF area, and I'll be shipping just the chassis. Apparently he has a good tube there to test with.

Take his advice and just do the ones that are problematic. You'll just be paying for work which doesn't need doing and by the sounds of it the guy knows that.antron wrote: He says he normally just changes the most problematic ones, and that some will never fail.
I have 8 cabs with MS8 monitors and that's what I'd do.

Was going to suggest you give this shop a call:

But it looks to be closed for good. I used to walk by this place when visiting a friend in the neighborhood, and the guy was always working on various arcade machines in the shop.

Jugu, long time man! Thanks anyway.
AeroCityMayor, thanks too. I was thinking that the LA guy is knowledgeable and just being honest. I may go that way.
The outfit is PNL Video in Baldwin Park, CA. Anyone used them?

In my area I was quoted $120 dollars to change the capacitors on an old 25" WG.. You are getting a great deal but again everyone in my area think that they are licensed professional with 20 years of experience and an stablished reputation and demand high pay for every little thing that they do.

Mine was $135 for the complete refurbishment of the ms8 from my local tech. The chassis was in pretty bad shape with busted resistors as such. Now it is good as new. Since the chassis is 20+ years old it pays to get it done once and done right.

So this was a smashing success. I didn't know my egret's geometry could be this good.

Re: Nanao ms8 complete recap necessary?
I did the full thing. If I had 8 of these I probably would have gone the cheaper route.
They had to change some IC's as well. All included in the quoted price.
Related question: does anyone know why I couldn't get the crt to discharge? I know how and have done it on orher monitors. Does this chassis auto discharge after a day or less?
