Try turning off the quick start feature, which may or may not impact battery life while off. http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com ... u-on%2Foff

And I'm not defending the awful battery or anything... but everyone should really be keeping the gamepad plugged in when not in use. My WiiU came with a charging dock that I just slip the gamepad on whenever I'm not using it.

Basic SKUs don't come with the charging cradle and lots of people don't like leaving electronics charging/on while they're asleep.

Mine's currently out of battery and I'm not going to charge it until next time I need to change system settings.

On the console I have neither Quick Start, nor Stand By enabled. By design when you turn on the console at the console it will "wake up" the game pad. Therefore it is necessary for the game pad "to listen" 24/7 for the wake up call from the console which means it is in a permanent "standby mode" which drains the battery rather quickly. There is no way to actually "turn off" the game pad.

Turning off standby mode on the WiiU also turns off quick start, which didn't even exist before standby mode. The battery drained quickly pre-quick start, which I mentioned drained quickly pre-standby. The weak charge holding has nothing to do with the system in standby mode. I mentioned that the pad is kept in the charging cradle. As said, it seems the standby on the pad itself can't be turned off.

Is this game even out yet? I am looking forward to play it but I only read 2015 as the release date everywhere.

No ... http://fast.shinen.com/neo/ ... and they are FAST running out of 2015!

So the localized version "Rodea the Sky Soldier" has been released and apparently this is accurate:

http://kotaku.com/new-wii-u-game-is-bet ... 1701430252

The Wii version completed four years ago which is ONLY available in the "launch-day Wii U edition" is the definitive version - the game basically didn't survive having it's Wiimote control "translated" to gamepad control; lots of people seem to feel that the controls and camera on the 3DS/Wii U version are seriously borked.

I recently started playing Pikmin 3. What a great game! I think it's my favorite of the series.

Having just played the two games today, I can confirm that this is all very true.

"FAST Racing Neo" release has now been updated to "December 2015" - nothing more specific than that. New Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaczCCrXmu8

Was Twilight Princess actually good? I remember not being too crazy about it at launch.

I'm having a surprisingly good time with Mario Kart 8. I think it's much better than the last few ones. I was surprised to see that the dlc was so reasonably priced. Game runs nicely online too. 200cc is pretty interesting.

Wow, the 'preload' for Xenoblade X (files to speed up loading and performance) is 10 GB. Holy crap, that's 1/3 my Wii U's total HD space!

I actually liked the Wii version but from what I remember the feedback on here wasn't too crash hot.

I haven't played the WiiU version, but I liked the GameCube version. It wasn't a very hard game, but I found it enjoyable.

The US release of Xenoblade Chronicles X will be here in a little less than 10 days. I'm pretty stoked for this one.

If you like 3D Zelda, you'll probably like Twilight Princess. I think it has a lot of the more complex dungeons in the series, but (like all the post-N64 3D Zeldas) it has real pacing issues, and like Wind Waker, it's way too easy. My least favorite of the console Zeldas since OoT, but it's worth checking out if you like those.

I'd be playing Xenoblade if the damn console wasn't region locked.

If there's a demo for the new FAST I may give it another shot. Didn't like the demo of the Wii game, but maybe the new one's more impressive to play than it looks in videos.

I doubt that would happen considering their near exclusivity to Nintendo systems.

It's not that unlikely anymore. To a large part it depends on whether Shin'en feels that their investment into Nano Assault Neo X paid off. Shin'en already has gone through the pain of acquiring PS4 development and publishing expertise and SCEE left a vacuum in the niche market of futuristic anti-gravity racing by discontinuing the WipEout franchise with the closure of SCE Studio Liverpool in 2012 - so there is "some limited" opportunity there.

Not sure whether the Destiny Sparrow Racing League is going to hurt or help that opportunity (i.e. people may get a taste for futuristic racing but FAST may be too different to grab anybody's attention).

Ditto except I'm waiting on NX news, with the machine expected in 2016. Not shelling out on a Wii U if the NX is backwards compatible, because I only want about 5 Wii U games and there's nothing particularly interesting on the horizon.

I can't see the NX coming out until 2017 at the soonest, cutting the lifespan of a current console is always an idiotic move, even if it's underperforming.

Sega did that with the Sega CD, 32X and Saturn... they lost consumer confidence and eventually went out of the console business. I'm sure the old guard at Nintendo remembers that.

People forget that the Gamecube was also considered a 'failed' system at the time, yet Nintendo supported it for 6 years.

So as much as I think a hybrid portable/console system like NX is... frankly brilliant and I can't wait to get my hands on it... they really have to make sure they hit this one out of the park if they want to stay in the home console business, they would be wise to wait, work out all the kinks, and make sure nothing is half baked this time. Sony/MS won't be releasing any new-gen consoles until 2018/2019, so they don't have to worry about being beat to market.

But can Nintendo afford to sit for another year with a console that's technically obsolete and has no 3rd party support? It's practically dead now and with the PS360 now gone, they have to compete with Sony and Microsoft. Unless I've missed something there's a new Star Fox and Zelda... and that's it.
