I think it affect the laser and laser bomb (at least visually). Main shot seems stays the old way.
Bomb mode haven't tested.

Okay so it turns out you can chain bomb as early as the stage 2 boss (kinda stage 1 innit).
Really does a lot for your score and kills bosses fast. And it's super fun to combo bombs like that. I think I might genuinely really like this game
Also I like how those tanky little mechs shooting the short range 8 way are actually your friend! go point blank them for an instant bomb refill and quite a bit of graze and chain points.
*edit* also what causes a "no break" on bosses? At first I thought it was a result of continuing, but that was recently contradicted for me.

no break = timeout?
also chain bombing on bosses is kinda bad since you do too much damage i think

Don't think so, he blew up halfway through an attack while getting hit by a laser.Bananamatic wrote:no break = timeout?
I think it might just be a general time limit.
I did it a ton on the stage 4 boss and I pretty much doubled my score.Bananamatic wrote:also chain bombing on bosses is kinda bad since you do too much damage i think
Without chain bombing = 250mil by the end of stage 5
With chain bombing = 410 mil by the end of the stage 4 boss. I almost fell out of my seat when I saw how much it boosted my score during the course of the fight.
Also up until trying that trick on the stage 4 boss, it had been a pretty shitty run with a stupid death on stage 3 and not great play on stage 4, so the score was already a lot lower then the "without" run. I think the huge rise in chain value and graze points give more benefit then prolonging the fight.

at least on the st5 boss I got around 300m more without spamming bombs, at least with the weakest laser
tried doing nothing on the very first boss and after a while he just blew up with the no break message so it should be a timeout (still got the perfect bonus though)

I haven't tried using the lowest power up level on anything yet. For max power at least, it seems like you'll get a higher chain with bombs since they fill it pretty fast and give you an opportunity to point blank through some stuff you wouldn't be able to otherwise.
Stage 5 boss doesn't seem to have that many grazing/bomb spam opportunities as the others though. Maybe the Stage 4 boss just has more lucrative grazing opportunities then Stage 5 boss.
Probably a good idea to bomb spam on the last phase of the stage 5 since if you've destroyed all the parts, he's in danger of timing out /no break by that point anyway.

I like how IGS' online leaderboards for this are still functional after 15 years.

Developers should take notes from Panic on how not to make a boss.
Trap, you're breaking all your promises. I literally couldn't bring myself to play this for score or even do another survival run after my first loss.

I actually really like the stage 4 boss. His circle pattern is tense and fun, and the lasers (once you get past their homogenius hitboxes) really make me jump!

Yeah I personally don't mind the 4th boss myself. The one I dislike is the 5th one as it's so important for score a single mistake can dump a credit.
