Suggestions For MulitChannel DAC devices?

Post by lettuce »

I have had a FiiO D07 TV Digital to Analog Decoder device for about a year now, but i think its stopped working, as i have started to lose the centre channel on my capture files (use 5.1 audio form games console into the FiiO D07 to convert to 2 channel and then into my Micomsoft XCAPTURE-1 device), while on the whole this FiiO D07 worked fine it did introduce audio sync issues.

I was wonder what other DAC devices are on the market that support multichannel, as i dont think ill get another FiiO device if its failed after only a year. I have seen the, LINDY Optical Audio DAC with Dolby Digital Decoder which looks like it might be a contender but just wanted to know if any members have had any experience with other devices or could make suggestions?

So the goal is a device that accepts a 5.1 input and has a stereo output?

Monoprice makes one that does HDMI audio (including 5.1 and compressed) to a variety of outputs (digital coax, optical, and analog stereo): https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=10251

They also have an HDMI switch that does the same: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=5557

On the other hand, why not just set your consoles to stereo PCM audio output and avoid the extra processing?

EDIT: It would seem that Monoprice UK doesn't carry either of those two products. I'm sure there are other cheap equivalents, but I'm still not sure why you need to.

So the Monoprice https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=10251 device, if i was to put that between my A/V amp and my capture device, could i run a hdmi cable into the Monoprice device (from my a/v amp) and then a hdmi cable coming out to my capture card, or do you need to attach a stereo phone cable aswell to actually get the stereo audio??

Basically does that device send just stereo audio along the hdmi out cable to my capture device or is a analog cable also need to carry to stereo audio?

I dont really want to set my consoles to stereo audio as i want to play my games in 5.1 surround

They don't modify the audio on the HDMI, so you'd run HDMI into the box, HDMI out of the box into capture card, analog audio out of the box into the capture card.
